Well, i still haven't worked up a handload yet but I did get 500 starline cases and some bullets so, after deer season I'll start the project. I did get some more of the LeverEvolution ammo and it will still put 5 shots in 1.5 inches. It seems to be loaded at full throttle!

I'll second that. The Guide Gun is the most accurate gun I have with open sights. I can do 3" groups @ 100 yrds off hand after I added a peep site. I use Hornaday HP (300 or 350, can 't remember) and 405 gr reloads. Its sorta funny to hear the "bang", one-thousand one,...

I got my Marlin '95 new in 1977, $190. It's pre-safety, pre-warning, straight stock, but unfortunately it isn't Ballard rifling. Except for the rifling it's what to me a lever action should be. With a peep sight, which I can still see to shoot, it sure caries better than with a scope. I've taken two bull elk with it. The royal bull went down at 70 yds with all 4 feet still under him, neck straight out. He never moved. At about 150 yds the spike bull took 4 of these rounds in the chest and kept going for 100 yds. Tough animal! My hunting load is the old Elmer Keith load of 53 gr of IMR 3031 behind a 400 gr bullet. You don't shoot that load just for the fun of it. It punishes. At 73 I'm afraid my elk hunting days are over but my Marlin 45-70 still sets on the rack, the big ding in the stock reminding me of a lesson learned the hard way.

I saw the stock broken off one of these when a horse did a summer salt and the rifle flew out of the scabbard,...

Got a 1894 Cowboy Limited in .45 Colt. It shoots nice but I don't like the sights very much. I guess I'm gonna be adding some more Marlin's to the collection.

I've had 30/30 , 35 rem and 45/70 marlins. Liked them all. I still have one in 357 mag and one in 45/70 ( magna ported..oooh ahh ).
They are great peices no doubt , but factory ammunition just does not do them justice. I love casting 500 grain pills and launching them from the Mod95G I still have... punishing recoil , but the impact is worth it. I also use a Ruger No1 in 45/70 with those 500 and 405 pills... anemic factory ammo has not tasted either's lips !.

Those Marlin's are accurate. Dad bought me a 39a , .22 backin 1952. Sometimes in the early 60's I wanted a scope so we put one of the little Weaver 22 scopes on it, I cannot remember the model number. We made a vise onto a saw horse to hold it, fired one shot then moved crosshairs to cover bullet hole. At 50 yards in that vise it would put bullets through what seemed to be the same hole. Dad also had a sporting carbine in 35 rem and it was a shooter, he especially liked to shoot it after I started reloading and put 158gr semi wadcutters in it. Finally shot the 1895 Marlin 45-70 and was astonished at it's accuracy. Used Hornady 325 grain Leverevolution ammo. Final group of the day was 5 shots in an inch and a half. Four of those were inside one inch. I used a 1.5x5 scope set on 5x. I really, really like this rifle!

I have not shot it yet but hope to try it out tomorrow. Price tag said $529 and got a 5 % military discount on that. It was the best price I could find around where I live. I have a Leupold VariX III 1.5X5 that I'm going to put on it. I got the scope years ago in a trade and never had a good use for it til now.

Been wanting to get a 45-70 and decided to start out with a Marlin 1895 with pistol grip and 22" barrel. I could only find 2 boxes of Hornady Lever evolution to try in it, everything else is sold out. I've read about these in Handloader and Rifle magazine and decided that this will be my one big bore rifle.
