Hello all. Will be posting several pics shortly of newly acquired M48A. Un-issued condition found in local sporting goods store in Michigan (where I live).
Import marking (banner) is from Zastava. I took it apart last night found no evidence of wear on components. Someone did try to clean off some cosmoline, but
not all. All numbers match, and the wood is new, finish is 100%.

I placed an order for a variety of 8mm ammo from ammotogo.com to see what she likes the most. Looking forward...

Rustybore has it right, in a short rifle 8mm Mauser is one of the kickingest rounds around!

Nice rifle. Nothing to be ashamed about on that one. With some care, that rifle should last you a lifetime. Be sure to wear a good shooting pad on your shoulder. After awhile of shooting a lot of rounds, it can take a toll on the shoulder.

I don't think that $350 is that bad of a price for one like that today. If you take a serious look at what is on the market in the way of milsurp rifles today as compared to 10 or 15 years ago, such as SKS, K-98s, M48's and such you will see that for the most part they have tripled in price in this time. Currently Yugo 59/66 SKS rifles are selling for over $400 now and the most I ever paid for one was $149.95. One locally sold for $450 a month ago here. So for comparison purposes, you got one heck of a bargain on a practically brand new rifle. No way on Gods Green Earth would I be ashamed of stating what you paid for it. I have seen some real basket cases M-48A rifles at gun shows that looked like they were drug behind a truck and used to prop up a blown out bridge crossing sell for over $250! It simply is a sign of the times and a lot of us have fond memories when collecting these things was a lot easier on the pocket book than it is now.

As promised, here are a few pics. I forgot to take pics of the full dissasembly, including the bolt. The main spring was primarily still encased in cosmoline. There are no scratches on the mag plate, follower, etc. I intend to "break it in" over the next two weeks with a 1000 rds or so at the local range. The wood has no nicks on it anywhere, which is a little odd. Makes me think it was a replacement stock, but as I took it apart to inspect and clean, the wood was "stuck" to parts of the barrel, bands, etc. Perhaps it was never fully dismantled. All numbers match.

Price? I overpaid. It was in the used section of a local Gander Mountain store in Michigan. I fell in love, and paid north of $350, slightly. However, it was worth it for me to have in hand, examine, etc. The difference of a $100 between what I paid, and Gunbroker, or other places isn't that critical.

<img...

Howdy and welcome to parallax Bill's Yugo Mauser forum.

Sounds like you made a great find. You might look through our stickies. The one marked "user testimonies... includes a piece written by a former Yugo soldier of the 70s detailing some of his experiences. You might find that of particular interest considering your Father's service.

If that rifle is truly unissued, the bore will still be unfired. Such weapons will usually be inconsistent until 'broken in.' That generally takes about 200 rounds before it really begins to settle down. You will probably want to put about 400- 500 rounds before taking it to the match.

Looking forward to the pics. Once again, welcome.

Just curious, but what did you have to pay for the rifle? I remember when Big 5 had them in unissued condition for around $200 about seven or eight years ago.
I bought two of the unissued ones and have shot one, and it is a good shooter, while the other one still remains in the box under a coating of Yugoslavian
grease.

I will be using this rifle in a local Frozen Chosin CMP match in late Feb and will let you know how it goes.

A bit of history, I was born in Belgrade and have lived in the us for 20+ yrs. The M48 was the rifle my father was issued when he was in the military in the
late '60s, so it holds a special place for several reasons.

Will post pics tonight.
