Grumpy it is hard to tell from the picture what it is. Maybe another angle with different lighting would help.

Loks like the bolt is underneath?
Possibly a falling block of some sort?

Looks like a tilting block like a Martini but with a side-lever. More pix would help. Also what's the caliber?
Check out my photos at oklahomaman
I don't do PC, and I don't care how it makes you feel. Get over it or go away. |

Oklahomaman- where have you been lately? I was about to inquire as to your whereabouts. Miss you on the forums.

Gumpy 47: I checked out your pix. I've seen a lot of firearms in 75 years but nothing like that. I'm stumped.

I think with some better and more detailed photo's we can figure it out.

Looking at photos on the other site I believe it is some form of lever operated falling block. Other than that I have no idea what it is. Very interesting
though.

Perhaps it's a prototype rifle that a 19th century inventor built, but couldn't sell to any government. Strange that it doesn't have any
proofmarks, name, factory address, date, etc... Does it have some sort of bayonet lug arrangement? After looking at photos of dozens of 19th century black
powder cartridge rifles, the only gun I could find with a bolt handle under the receiver is the Greek M1872 Mylonas rifle, and that ain't it.

Never seen anything like it, it's got to be French, just too strange.
