Turk Bayo? |
Lead | |
|
I acquired this bayonet with the purchase recently of a 1903 Turkish Mauser. there are some numbers on the hilt but they are more than partially obscured due
to pitting. I have seen a few like this one but either the blade was shorter or the button on the rear was different, can anyone help in identifying this
wonderful old bayonet?

It isn't a Turkish bayonet, but must be one captured from the Balkans or Greece.

I have a model 1903 Turkish bayonet that has been cut down too, and it is different from Kripp's bayonet. First of all, my bayonet has it's grip panels
attached by means of peened pin type rivets and washers, not a threaded screw and nut arrangement. Secondly, the fuller (blood groove) extends much closer to
the point than the bayonet in the photos. Early Turk bayonets seem to have blades that are more narrow in width, and thicker in cross section than the standard
Mauser bayonets of the late 19th - early 20th centuries. Kripp, are there any star stamps on the blade or ASFA?
