Going Price for SAKO M39 |
Lead | |

Looking over some new arrivals at the local gun store there is a Sako M39 on the rack. It looks to be VG to VG+ with 80% blueing, and a good bore. What are
these going for?

Generally in the $200-$300 range. Of the 4 I own my Sako is my favorite to shoot. It was a WG&A excellent condition at $139 back in 2003.
If you are going to shoot it at less than 200 yards you won't regret investing in one of these.

altera6 wrote:More info is needed to properly evaluate the rifle. Such as, barrel mfg/date, stock mfg., war time stock, receiver mfg, receiver date on the tang, original bluing, original finish on the stock, or new refurb stock? Any cartouche stampings on the stock?, or other markings on the receiver, etc... As Brass Rat noted, years ago, and even up to a year ago, WG&A had some really sweet examples of these rifles, at a very sweet price. Not anymore!!! Beware, as most all stocks that are now offered by WG&A are POST WAR examples, or war time examples with CRACKS, and, or, plugs/repairs(not necessarily a deal killer for me). Look real hard at the finish of the stock, as the newer stocks don't have the war time three part finish the Finns used during the war, and are usually transitional, or post war stocks. These rifles are usually supurb shooters, as a general rule, even if they aren't war time, or antique examples. Look for a sharp, crisp, mirror bore, a crisp, sharp crown, and any matching parts would also be a plus. Just a few things you might want to consider, when buying a M39 rifle. If you need more assistance, please let us know, and may the force be with you! Michael |

Altera6- do you have any recollection of what they were asking for it?
I am pretty much in agreement with what brass rat said, pricewise. However rifles that were selling for $139 in 2003 are now selling for much more than that, especially currently with the big push going on. The main thing to do is to closely examine the rifle for some of the things Michael mentioned, and if the rifle "speaks" to you, you will know what to do. Also a lot of gun shops will dicker somewhat on price, especially if you wave a fistfull of greenbacks in front of them. Curt |

Then again, if the price is right($100-150), and as noted, it trips your trigger, by all means GO for it!!! Most of these rifles are excellent shooters, if
that's what you're looking for. Personally, I try to look at the total package, as I alluded to in my previous post. Let us know how it all pans out
for you.

I just bought my M39 1942 Sako, 100% blue, perfect bore and great post war stock from gunsnammo.com for around $370. I like that they have pics of each rifle
so you see what you're getting. Very nice folks, quick shipping, well boxed up. Less blueing of course cheaper. I'll pay a little more to support a
small family busuness also. SOG will probably be cheaper but look of the draw
