Posts: 131 (12/17/08 11:09 PM) active member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None I called the regular dealers that deal in Mosin Nagants today 12-17-08. All told me they were sold out. Most told me to check back in 11-12 days for Mosin Nagants. Apparently there has been a real rush on all guns. The Mosin Nagants are the least expensive and many are being used as "stocking stuffers". My local dealer has Mosin Nagant model 91-30s (standard models) for $159.00 before the ATF call, tax, etc..... All other local dealers are out of stock...... Best Wishes to you all......If you can find any Mosin Nagants for reasonable prices I would advise you to pick them up. I don't know if we are going to be seeing many more Mosin Nagants. I talked with one importer that claimed he couldn't find any more. Best Wishes....

Will they be hard to find for your collection....? Not in our lifetime....Tens of thousands(hundreds of thousands...? Only the importer knows & they ain't talkin..) were most likely imported into the country. That is why quality made centerfire bolt action MN rifles are now so currently inexpensive. A high power centerfire cartridge for under a hundred bucks? Cheap, cheap, cheap....If you desire a collection of refurbed Soviet 91-30's, now is the time to buy - I think they are sold at giveaway prices... Pahtu.

Posts: 6318 (12/18/08 08:08 AM) Veteran member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It is perfectly understandable that in the present mad buying up of anything that shoots, the rifles that traditionally sell for the least cost would be the biggest movers. I sense that a lot of these sales are to people completely unfamiliar with what they are buying and all they want is to be known as a gun owner and own guns. I just hope that these people read the little instruction book that usually comes with the rifles about properly cleaning them before attempting to fire them and everybody remains safe. If there was suddenly an upsurge in shooting accidents from guns blowing up due to things like this, it would only hurt us milsurpers who swear by these rifles. Curt

Ask a dealer how many AR's and AK's he could sell? There is just a run on guns caused by the incoming anti-gun regime. Are they going to be coming back in? Who knows time will tell I guess? They started to dry up and look at the prices now. The Mosin Nagant has always been under appreciated. It is a very accurate, well made rifle. Maybe the secret is getting out. For a while I had 15 Mosin Nagants of all kinds. After the movie "Enemy at the Gates", every guy at work had to have one. I sold 1 to a friend at work and with in a week I had sold all except my very favorite SA marked 1936 Izzy. At the prices the guys offered I would have been a fool to say "no". My 36 Izzy is just not for sale. I am trying to decide what to buy now. A standard 91/30, a hex 91/30, a laminated 91/30. Are they still importing the 91/30s and putting the billboard import mark on the reciever?

I am still looking for a left handed M91-30 that was on the title scene of the movie and on the box that contained the tape of the movie! Not too many people caught that, but it caught my eye immediately upon seeing the VHS movies being offered for sale. Obviously they had the negative turned over when they developed the picture to put on the box and the title page of the movie. But, the present hysteria going on, I don't think many people really have a clue as to what they are buying. It is simply a "gun' to them. When you hang around the firearms counter at a gunstore or a Big 5 and watch people come in from off the street and head for the firearm section and ask to take a look at that milsurp rifle, which is on sale (M91-30 at Big 5) and then they have to ask what caliber is it, you know damn good and well that they don't have any idea of what they are buying. Bannerman rechambered M-Ns that were rechambered to .30-06 have not been on the market for generations, thank God! I mean, what other caliber would a M-N be? Yes the dealers and stores selling firearms are doing a record business now, which is great, in view of the overall economy we are in, and I hope it helps them pull thru these bad times, as we have seen a lot of firearm stores an local outlets fold over the past ten years due to economic reasons. But on the other hand, it sort of scares me a bit. If these people don't have a clue as to the caliber, you can be sure they don't have much knowledge in safe handling of firearms. I just hope there is not a rash of shooting accidents in the future due to uninformed people suddenly finding themselves in the possession of a firearm that they could not have cared less for a few months ago. That would make us look bad in the eyes of the public and the liberal press, which would be sure to mention that it was a cheap military rifle that was used. Curt

But this is rural western Wisconsin and a lot of people already have guns. Dunhams still had several AKs and one AR of some sort. Century's website lists a lot of their Mosins as "coming soon". I assume they still have them in stock but that they haven't been sorted and graded yet. I've certainly gotten my share of Mosins over the past ten years including many Century 5fers!! I gave my brother a Finn M-39 and I think he's hooked, too. It was an evil thing to do. He's sending his "qualifications" to Century so he can buy ammo from them. Carl

I also don't think we've seen the last of the Mosin Nagants.

If I remember correctly, it was several hundred of them and a lot of us were patiently waiting for them to become available, but it never seemed to happen. They've been selling them on an ongoing basis for quite awhile and it was a lot more than several hundred. My guess is they've also sold some to other wholesalers. Southern Ohio Gun has them for sale. Classic Arms did for awhile, too. Carl

I have never had any dealings with them, so I am not really up to snuff on the business. The only experience with their products was maybe a dozen years ago. I had boughten a couple nice Mosin Nagant M91-30's and an M91-59 from Big 5 about a year earlier and could not shoot them because I could not find one single round anywhere, including gun shows. Then one day, I went into Tom's Sportco in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho and looked at their offerings and I found plastic ziplock bags containing 40 rounds of 7.62X54R ammo for sale for $9.95 a bag. I was in hog heaven, as now I could shoot my old Russian rifles once at last! I bought five bags of it, so I had 200 rounds and out fifty bucks, but what the heck. I had been looking for ammo for them for well over a year with no results. It was nice looking ammo, brass cased with no dents and dings in it and looked like it was loaded just the week before. I later found out that it was Bulgarian ammo. But on the tag on the bags, it said Burns Bros. 7.62X54R corrosive. So what it boils down to is that the first ammo I had in that caliber came from them. That was in 1996, by the way. I never could make the connection between Burns Bros and Wholesale Guns and Ammo until now. By the way, that was some of the nicest 7.62X54R ammo I have ever had. If anybody finds any of it, I would suggest stocking up on it. Very accurate and not a trace of the sticky bolt syndrome when shooting it, like some other steel cased ammo. Tom's Sportco is now long gone and I miss the place. In fact, I was offered a job there on weekends in the rifle department, as the guy thought it would help sell more milsurps with a person with the knowledge I had about them behind the counter. Sadly, I had to turn down the offer, as it would mean a 90+ mile round trip two days a week and I already have a full time job five days a week. And I need my days off to go shooting! Just got off the ph. from another MN collector and he feels prices peaked a year ago on non "refurbished" guns and they are now falling for the most part. No need to worry about these Mosin Nagant rifles availabilty dwindling, people will lose interest and they will show up "on the cheap" for years to come. (I'm just hoping the non refurbished guns regain some ground in the future.) Draybo : ) As a side note....My first "refurbished" pure Russian M91/30 cost me $175. The markets do change! "Panic buying", and half of these idiots probably voted for the "O"man. I know one of the young techs at the shop voted for him, and then approached me, not too long ago, and ask about, "how much would it cost him for a home defense type of hand gun?". I replied, "about two, to three times what it'd cost before the election". I then proceeded to explain(again,as I had before the election), that his man had taken a stand AGAINST firearms, in general, and Kevin was genuinely surprised about that. I ask him point blank, "did you not know what your candidate's platform was?", and he replied, "didn't know he was against guns". I like the kid, but I had to tell him, "Kevin, you're a dumb ass, I explained all that to you, well before the election." I said, you wanted "change", now that "change is gonna cost you about three times what it would've before the election". Bottom line is that after all of this "panic buying", everything should return to normal, as the "O"man was elected from the left, but is no dumb ass, and as history tells us, will govern from the center. Although we get saturated with information (and misinformation and disinformation) during every presidential election cycle, vast numbers of voters are profoundly ignorant of the issues. There is an election day video on youtube of a reporter asking basic questions on current events and info taught in junior high school civics. The moronic answers that the voters gave is a testament to the dopeyness of the average guy or gal on the street. America is dumbed down, and that might be the fatal flaw that will doom this republic. I would bet that the average person who posts on this forum is much more intelligent than the typical American. My proof; people on this forum read and write with more proficiency than the average semi-literate American.
