Has anyone tried to load 123 grain SP bullets for SKS /AK rifles in a 30/30 bolt action?
Thanks Mike

I haven't tried it, but here's my .02 on doing so.
I'd be concerned with the bullet diameter differences between the two calibers. .310 to .312" for the 7.62x39 bullets versus the .307 diameter of the 30-30 barrel. That's a lot of "squeeze-down" happening. Is it a Savage bolt rifle? IMO, it would be more wise to pick up some commercial 125 gr .308 bullets if you're looking for a light load to work up.

Hi WVchuck
Yes it's a 340 savage. I ran the bullets thru a Lyman 450 sizer with the bullets coming out at .3105. I'm using 32 grains of varget as a test load to check for pressure signs. I'm not looking for a fast load but a accurate load of approx 2500 fps. Mike |

I found a bag labeled Remington 125-gr PSP that mic up at .309. I've tried them in both .303 Brit and a 7.62 Israeli K98 with the starting load of 4895
appropriate for those calibers. Worked fine.
