Bag O' 03 Parts Help |
Lead | |
|
Picked up a ziplock baggie of misc 03 parts from a haunt while road trippin' and have a couple questions on what I bought.... First. NS marked bolt body.
It has been polished but not jeweled, but when I assemble the bolt (using some of the parts out of the bag), the bolt head will not screw down all the way. It
is off a quarter turn and the firing pin is out of the FP hole in the face of the bolt. Like the body is too short. Ideas? Second, there is a MINT 03 rear
site assembly. It is parkerized with a bright finish ladder and a non-cupped knob. Is this a WW2 era rear site? Worth anything? It is totally excess to my
needs. NOt a bad score I thought.

This is a case where an image would be very helpful.
M1903 bolts were not two piece as is implied by your comment that the bolt head won't screw all the way down. ? What you describe is consistent with the two piece bolt used in the M1922 .22 caliber rifle. "N.S." stamped on the root of the bolt handle indicates Nickle Steel. WWII rear sights were finished parkerized so it is likely your rear sight is pre-WWII. The flat windage knob is correct for WWI and later knobs. |

Sorry... bolt sleeve will not screw down all the way onto the body. It is not a two piece. My fault for typing fast. I took the guts from another 03 I have in
the safe and it stops screwing it an the same point. I need about another 1/4 turn to get it in the correct position. Weird. I will try and get pics later
tonight.
