After my premature birth, as I was handed by the nurse to my swashbuckling, uniformed USAF dad, who had dead-headed across the US in C-46's during the
Korean Conflict, he pushed back his cap and exclaimed, "You mean--I came all the way from South Carolina just to meet this buzzard bait-?"
Immediately, I was nick-named "Buzz", later "Buzzy." (My dad was the greatest pappy a person ever had.) I simply added the "El"
prefix because (a) I live in a heavily Hispanic city and (b) there are wayy too many other plain old Buzzes in cyberspace.

Really self explanatory. Every gun I buy is a shooter. I have a C&R license, but it just allows me to get good deals on milsurps that ar reasonably priced
and usually good shooters. I guess cheap could be a relative term. My first C&R purchase was a French 49/56 for $250. My cheapest was a French MAS 36 for
$35. Everything I have isn't cheap milsurps though. Colt 1991A1 Compact, Olympic PCR5 AR clone. Romanian Dragomov, Springfield Armory XD-40 Subcompact, and
a lot more in all price ranges. The latest, a Beretta 92FS.

Ever since I was a small child, I have been very proud of my country. The Star Spangled Banner has always sent a tingle up and down my spine and a tear to my
eye. At the age of 18, I went to talk to a recruiter about enlisting in the Navy. He basically talked me out of it. The US had just brought all their troops
back home from Viet Nam. They ended the draft and were talking about cutting military benefits drastically. Combined with the anti-military sentiment at the
time the recruiter was very disillusioned. I can't blame him. I wish I had still decided to go into the Navy though. When someone asks me if I ever served
in the military I feel somewhat guilty when I say no. Now I have kind of made up for it though. I raised a Marine. He just finished boot camp. I am very proud
of him!!!

'When someone asks me if I ever served in the military I feel somewhat guilty when I say no.'
I can totally relate to that. On the other hand you serve your country also by raising a good family, serving your neighbor and God, working hard, and being an upstanding citizen. Thanks to all the men and women who do serve, many of us do not have to. We still are responsible and in debt to those who do, however. Just my 2 cents. |

YAKOV VINTOVKA |
|||
|
My name is James. James is the English variant of Jacob. I am interested in Russian rilfes and so Jacob in Russian is Yakov. Vintovka means Rifle in Russian. I
put it all in caps because the Russian Cyrillic alphabet usualy is always blocked and bold on many of the signage one can see in Russia. The alphabet style is
often an in your face style.
Yakov Vintovka was as close as I could get to "Jim's Rifle" plus I thought it had a nice ring to it. It sounds so naturally Russian. well at least to my non-Russian ear.... and it didn't take me this long to think it up as it did to write this all down. Jim |
