Here's my primer tale of woe:

One of the few of the very few shops that are within a reasonable drive here (less than 50 miles one way) is basing their store prices on what they saw at Gander Mountain outside of Charleston.
I told the guy, yeah, but you're not one of many Gander Mountain stores and you don't have the population to support those kinds of prices in anticipation of that 1st time, uneducated, impulse buyer base to work from like they do.
Alienating your few hundred consumers out of a few thousand total population base is not a smart thing to be doing if you run a small shop.
Gander can afford to make a few hundred angry out of a few hundred thousand population base and not take a financial loss.
Jim-Bob's Bait and Reloading Shack can't, I don't think. But they're seeing potential $$ to be made, not the long term effects of pissing off their lifetime, local customer base, at least not just yet.
But as in my case, they have already lost revenue.
I'll not buy another thing from them, nor will I go out of my way to stop by the shop 4-6 times a year like I have done for years in the past, just to see what's new and spend more than a few $$ there.
He jacked the prices on his primers from one week to the next. They weren't new primers, they were the same ones that had dust on them the week before, just a new price sticker.
Lose several hundred dollars a year by adding a $1 gouge to a box of primers that have already been bought and paid for months/years ago by saying that's what another store gets from them.....makes perfectly good business sense to me.
I can't replace them for that price was the response when I questioned him about raising the price.
So mark up the new ones to cover the increase. I could accept that better than retroactively raising the prices on stuff that's already on the shelves and has been there for years.
I'll guarantee that the same primers are sitting on the shelf that were there in May that were there in 2008, 2007 and 2006..........
That's almost as bad, if not worse than if someone posted a price on something in the trader, then editing the post to raise the price another $50-$100 on an item that is already overpriced.
