The shim that was disturbed is the small one forward of the action post cut out. It is in approximately the area that I found it in when the action came out.
Anyone have any ideas where it belongs?

Help! Need help with the shims on my Finn 91/30 |
Lead | |

I recently got a Tikka barreled 91/30 at an estate sale. It was covered in grease, so in order to clean it up, I de-mated the stock from tha action. I know
that some of the Finn MN's have shims, so I was careful when I removed the action from the stock. But, alas, not careful enough. There were three
shims--one under the tang, one behind the action post and a small one that was disturbed from it's original position.

If the rifle has been used since shimming the shim(s) should leave some kind of "footprint" telling where it's been. Marks can often be found in the stock areas that used the shim, on the shim itself where the reciever contacted it and sometimes the receiver can take on a different look where it was placed on a shim. They may be very faint. If you can, carefully mate the shim with those footprints. I can't speak of specific use areas since my only shim has been pinned in place in the same area that you have the brass one. |

Sometimes a small shim like that is placed vertical behind or in front of the recoil lug. Check there too for in impression like daengmei describes.

I think you are right. Based on the size and where I recovered it, I believe it was between the recoil lug and action post and reassembled it that way.
I'll try and shoot it in the next few days and give a range report
