I think what holds some SKSes back in the accuracy dept. is the long creepy trigger pulls that many of them have.
I'm not knocking them--I have " a few" and they are great fun to shoot. Get one with a nice trigger and with the right ammo it can be very accurate. There's a guy who goes by Kivaari who does trigger jobs on SKSes and is well regarded. |

Yeah, Kivaari used to post here on PB's forums. I wonder why he left the forums?

Kivaari is still out there! I hear from him privately from time to time. He recently did a nice trigger job on an SKS for me. One was damaged having a
broken safey lever. I figured that I could fix it. Right! After struggling with it for a week after even building tools for it, I ended up sending it to him
to be repaired and tweaked. Now it's a great trigger with zero creep and a nice let-off. And, the safety works.
Rome Might as well include his address: http://www.kivaari.com/

I'm still around...still kickin' and still doing sks trigger work.. I haven't been buying milsurps too much lately. Mostly I've been trying to
get some of those sought after commercial firearms lately. Moving to get a Type 01 soon and get into gun repair seriously. Studying and doing what I need to do
to expand the shop full time...........$$$$

I have two M59/66s and I'm shocked at how much they've appreciated in value over the last four years. I paid $150 for one and $79 for the other, and
now it's getting hard to find any SKS under $300. The one I bought for $79 looked almost brand new and came with the logbook too.
I'd like to get a Russian SKS so I might sell one of my Yugos, but in terms of accuracy they are both good - better than the pricier Kalashnikovs. For a "carbine" firing an assault rifle caliber they are large and heavy, which makes them very stable and easy to shoot rapidly. |
