I have a new 308 H&R brake open type. If it were you would you strip it and send the receiver and front piece to the factory and let them fit a 30-30 barrel? $87.00 Does any one make a 30-30 in bolt action? What say ye?

I just don't like firing that off kind of ammo in my sks. It has had less than 300 rounds fired through it and very few of that so-so brand. I have 308 bullets running out my ears.shotout

Posts: 212 (09/21/09 06:47 AM) active member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Savage/Stevens made a bolt action rifle chambered in .30/30, the Stevens model # is 325. It has a box magazine that holds 3 rounds, if I recall correctly. They can be found around gun shows from $200 up.

Particularly a Winchester, my Dad bought one of the 70's era production (94's?) used with on old Weaver brand 3x scope on it, looks like it's seen a few seasons of whitetail hunting. I don't care much for scopes but it's fun to shoot. I'm also a fan of NOT scoping lever guns! I would like to get another Winchester, with a longer barrel and un-scoped, 30-30 is one of the best all-purpose rounds in my opinion, equally at home target shooting or hunting. I forget who makes it but I saw a huge Single Action revolver in 30-30, would make a great "sidearm" (use that term loosely) for the Winchester. Who needs a Smith .500 when you've got a wheelgun that spits 30-30!

My brother had one in .222 Remington and, ugly as it was, it was magnificently accurate. Believe that the same model was available in 30-30Win. NRA Endowment member LECS #2

I've thought about getting the Savage bolt gun for the .30-30 so I could use the cases. How's that for rationalization? I have no interest in a lever action rifle; they just don't appeal to me. I'm headed for a gun show Saturday morning and maybe I'll run across one. I shouldn't be spending any money so I'll more than likely come home empty handed. Carl

Posts: 4 (09/24/09 04:21 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Stevens 325s are really pretty good shooters if they've been decently cared for. Kind of ugly/cute guns. Many of them seem to have been shot very little then retired to the closet for 60 years. The mag springs tend to be dodgey if they were stored all that time loaded but you can still get NOS mags.
