I forgot to log out.
I was gone for a week on a motorcycle trip though WA, OR, ID, UT, AZ, CO, and WY. Hard core! I won't be posting much for a day or two, I'm VERY busy with work! I'll post some pics in a few days. Some are even Milsurp related. Bill |

well, I've been a little busy these last few months, and I don't get much time to peruse the forums. And when I do I'm so tired that I might make a
single post. If that.

Hey if we can go on and on about skydiving how about my favorite place to eat. If you are easily offended then just read the article about The Hilltop Inn. One
of many places that serve up our local delight.

Hoosier Daddy, eating squirrel brains may not be such a good idea. I have read medical reports advising against eating squirrel brains because there is a virus
like the mad cow disease that infects many squirrels in the eastern part of the USA. This phenomena was first discovered by a neurologist and a veterinarian
that found a link between people with early onset of senile dementia symptoms and the custom of eating fried squirrel brains. IIRC, the people were rural folk
from WV and NC who considered fried brains and scrambled eggs a treat, and they were getting the brain virus from the squirrels. The veterinarian working with
the state wildlife management office found clusters of brain infected squirrels if the same areas where the humans were affected.

Thanks I've never ate squirrel brains and probably never will. I was just poking fun at Greg.
Now I have ate my share of beef brain till the mad cow thing came down the pike. |

sitting in Anchorage...off to Fairbanks tomorrow, back home Friday.
WORK! something is wrong--I spend Sunday-Fri in Alaska, and only work.....makes a "dull boy" you know? I get up here every 6-7 weeks, and need to manage my time better.....the Milsurp scene is pretty poor here! ...there is a class III club in Anchorage, however! Cheapdad |

FWIW, I have often thought we might have better communication with fewer sub-forums. More people and posts concentrated in a smaller area. I know that we
expanded a few years ago but maybe it is not working out OK?

While true that any one forum is likely getting fewer hits these days, like here at the Parallax View for instance, but if you scrowl around all the forums on
this board, you will see that there is still a bit of activity. Sometimes here, sometimes there, but usually always a bit of something going on somewhere.
Thing is, if it's going on in the hunting board, or maybe the movie or history board, not everybody is going to be interested in seeing it here in
"the View"!
Also realize that this being the first day of fall, many regular posters are preparing for hunting and not sitting at their computers as much! There are about a dozen specific forums here that I regularly follow, and it is rare that something isn't happening in at least a couple of them at any given time! True, not much is happening in them, but typically something is happening somewhere. But it's often topic specific, and not likely of interest to all the general membership, so a specific topic forum is the correct place for it, IMHO! |

While I don't particularly miss the days of 500 post averages (yes, this site was once that busy) I'd like it to be a little more active. I'm not
leading it like I used to mostly due to budget restraints (mortgage, college funds, utilities etc. much higher than a few years ago) lack of new milsurps and
imports is my main excuse. When I had a bigger collection and was far more active I enjoyed talking about the latest things we were all finding regularly, but
it has simply died out for most of us and I assume most of us are in the same financial pinch my family is in these days. If you're not, you better count
your blessings because all good things can turn sour for any number of reasons not necessarily of our own making.
Maybe politics and other OT issues would keep the place alive.....but at what costs? I'd hate to test it.

Don't do that Bill, we all know better.
Quality not quantity. What we have here is a good small group of like minded Americans, (and some Aussies and Brits). I agree, let's all be grateful. |

Forget the politics, Bill, please. This is a place to escape from it. I was wondering if I could justify ordering 5 of those Russian capture vz-24s from AIM
on the basis that they might be worth more in a couple of years than a thousand dollars that had been sitting in a bank account. Times are tough money wise
now so likely I won't do it. I don't even venture on to Gunbroker much any more. If I don't see things then I'm not tempted or frustrated
because I can't bid on them.
I'm still thankful we're
surviving even if just barely. Carl

Plus most people here are on the same political page so preaching to the choir is not needed. For those who disagree with us, screw 'em!
That was a joke, gentlemen. |

Yeah, you guys are right, we get politics everywhere else pretty much 24/7. But these are some important times we are living in. We'll just have to stay
active....elsewhere and talk 99% guns here.

I've been a member and poster on several forums for the past 20 years. Have seen a lot of the forums go away for any number of reasons. I have this forum
bookmarked as a site I visit 7 days/week and I like it a lot. I've come to "know" and respect many of the personalities here. The rules are a
"little loose" but that makes it all the better for me; I am not especially interested in topics and postings that grind a subject into the ground
with the "nitty-gritty" of anything. This is a friendly site and I feel at home here. If no one is posting today, I'll look again tomorrow. I
appreciate the site and work put into it. If a contribution will help, ask. I'd really dislike seeing this site go away. ed
