Went on a mini-vacation with the wife and hit Rock Island Arsenal, the USAF Museum in Dayton and went home via the North Store. Been wanting to see the place
for years and the recent batch of WRA's got me jonsing for a trip. I found a couple very nice WRA field grades with one that measured less than 1 and the
other a solid 1.5 on the muzzle. Also found a near correct 5.4 million SA and a 1.8 million sa. Met some good folks while waiting for the paperwork to clear
and overall had a really good time. The second WRA was a spur thing. I was looking at them one last time and a old guy came over and asked if I was looking
for anything in particular. I said just a nice WRA with a good barrel and a nice heel stamp. He handed me the one he was carrying around and gave me a wink.
"Everyone needs a nice one.... THis one is a keeper" It was the one that measure less than one. It had a WRA buttplate, gastrap era bolt, WRA
cliplatch and a beautiful stock. Handguards were junk. He said to enjoy it and walked off. Heck of a good guy in my book.
I cant say enough about the USAF museum. Absolutely incredible. THe smithsonian was nice... this was incredible. Rock Island has a small museum with garands, gastraps, .276 pedersons, 03's (RI 1903 #1 on display). Tons of carbines, Krags, prototypes, captured weapons and what was advertised as the country's largest collection of captured native american firearms. Really impressive and free admission. If anyone needs some fun places to see while on the road... give these a shot. I have a few photos if anyone is interested.
