The only thing that they have in common is that they both started out as German K98k and were reworked by the Yugoslavs.
The first I acquired at a pawn shop - strictly for the action - several years ago for $30 is marked PREDUZECE 44 and Mod.98
There is no crest where the German factory/date was removed. Most of the small parts have the eagle and/or eagle/swastika marks on them.
Unfortunately, the bore has NO rifling left, the stock had been "sporterized", and the whole thing poorly re-blued. Serial # B68xx.
The other I got last month at a gun show has the Yugo crest on the top of the ring, Mod.98 on the side, and - so far as I can tell through the grease - has not a single eagle on any part and appears to be in excellent shape. Serial # U90xx. Tag claimed it was an Oberndorf gun. $150 out the door. Good deal, I think.
So... 2 questions for now.
1) is the first gun good for anything other than having a custom rifle built on it ( factory ammo keyholes @ 25 yards - perfect profile of the bullet through the paper, couldn't stay on the target backing at 50yd ) ;
2) how does one identify the original factory ( like Oberndorf ) for a gun that went through the Yugo re-work ?
Thanks,
Bruceissippi
