I did some research on it and found out what it looks like but I've looked everywhere and cannot find an original sling for it. Does anyone have some advice? I've seen one in real life that was worth keeping and it's still on the Turk carbine I picked up several years back. IMO, get a Swede sling, or make your own out of some leather and a leather punch.

Use a leather hole-punch & hammer to make the holes, then use rawhide shoe laces to tie off each end. If you don't want to make your own, I found this link to an outfit that sells reproductions: http://www.madsterz.com/productmad.php?modelno=601MB As far as what some Turks actually used, a few years ago I bought several "5-fer" deals on Turk Mausers from Century. Most of these rifles had some type of makeshift or "ersatz" sling on them, including re-worked men's belts, cloth ammo bandoliers tied to the sling loops, nylon rope, and what appeared to be a dog leash. I think Chuck might have gotten one that had a piece of 18-ga lamp-cord tied on it as a sling. All of these came from Turkey with these odd "slings" already attached, so I guess any of them could be considered an "original" Turkish sling! -Bean --------------------------------------------------------------------------- What part of "shall not be infringed" don't you understand? Posts: 2950 (09/14/09 07:08 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	On the 1893s and 1903s the "original" slings from Germany probably disintegrated to shreds many years ago. The turkish slings, actually carry straps, are just strips of leather, sometimes crudely pieced together with string or clumps of thread, with loops held on by leather lacing through punched holes. Find the crummiest heavy leather you can, cut it in 1 inch strips and piece together until you have enough length, then punch and lace.

For the others, I've made slings from raw vegetable tanned tooling leather, with holes punched to lace them together around the swivels with boot lace as suggested above. I used the pictures on rifleslings.com for guidance, especially for the lacing. I oiled mine with olive oil, and they look good and work well. Mine are both thicker and wider than the original on my 1893, but as was said above, the Turks used whatever worked. That works for me, too. "A cheerful heart is good medicine."
