Posts: 29 (10/07/09 10:18 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Ive just come back from a long weekend in normandy taken a few pics, thought some of you may be interested ? i have tried to keep the pics weapons related [sort of] " not strictly US rifles " but i think its an interesting subject. i have a lot of other pics of the beaches, st mere eglise, pointe de hoc, pegasus bridge, if any one is interested i will post more pics. Just as a footnote to this, the last picture in this album is of an old guy of 87 his name is Fred ex Royal Navy ,and he is standing on Juno beach he was last on this beach in 1944 june 6th , where he drove in a landing craft as he got to the beach his landing craft was hit he was flung into the sea he was picked up by another landing craft and taken back to his ship, 1 hour later he was back taking more troops to the shore in another craft, he was a great guy , he was very embarresed when i asked to take his picture on "his beach " especcialy when the whole coach party also took pictures. he was staying in my hotel and i had a good chat with him that night he had some great stories to tell. Those good feelings Mr. Chamberlain had about Herr Hitler being kind to Czechoslovakia didn't work out so well in the long term.

Posts: 30 (10/08/09 07:56 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Thanks for the info on the howitzer, i could not make any sense of the markings . there is acouple of pics of one of these blown to pieces and the concrete emplacment with the roof caved in and the end of the barrel buried in the earth . Direct hit by the allies you may think ! " NO" This battery was taken by the british Devonshire regiment on the 7th of june , at longues - sur - mer , the day after d-day, they had put an anti aircraft gun on the roof and the magazine had caught fire and blown the roof and gun to bits, Also you may wonder why i took pics of railings , these are in St mere eglise and are bullet holes still on the original iron fence, also the plack on the wall is from the towns main square, where the para landed.

RLMBASSIST RIGHT BEHIND THE MONUMENT FOR EASY COMPANY IS THE FIELD WHERE THEY TOOK OUT ALL THE MACHINE GUN POSTS As in the band of brothers. It amazes me sometimes how things can change in only 65 years. But I suppose a lot of the rebuild was due to the bad memories of the war and for the local people wanting to put it all behind them and move forward with their lives. Curt
