At one time, my gun room was something to be proud of. Now I've let it get so cluttered I almost trip trying to step over stuff. Since I'm not ready
to start selling off the guns I never shoot, it is time to build the closet shelves, two extra rifle racks, maybe get a second safe, and otherwise get my act
together.

Know where you're at, Greg. My sympathy - and empathy! My room was full, then my father passed away...added 2 safes, took all the gun boxes, carrier cases,
and all the SHTF ammo and put it all upstairs under the bed, and put another safe in my closet upstairs. It helped a bit, but now I have some guns I'll
never shoot taking up space...a Colt-Sauer? Nah, way too nice for the likes of me. An original Winchester '73? Never happen. A Browning Replica of an 1886
in 45-70? Ouchies, that one hurts. And on it goes....
Try hanging them from the ceiling.......those J-hooks work pretty well, and they're bendable. Also, I put a couple above the doors of the walk - in closets on the inside....Now I'm eyeing those in-the-wall-between-the-studs safes.... |

I've got rifles stuck in every nook and cranny here in this small trailer house. And where there is not a rifle stashed, there is a couple cases of ammo!
The bad part of this is that two years ago, I broke a bone in my left foot when I had to get up in the middle of the night to make a potty call and I stubbed
my foot on a case of 8mm ammo! That wood crate did not move an iota, but it sure set me off howling for a while. Had to wear the "boot" on my foot
for two months and it never did heal like it should have.

I feel your pain. I've started a re-hang all the handguns project, but my hangers just ain't working. Meanwhile, the reloading room is a total pit.
Curt, after my divorce many years ago, I was living in a 12x50 '60 model. I pulled the 4mm paneling off the kitchen island & managed a couple of rows of rifle racks. Just nailed it back when I was done. |

Well, this trailer I live in is a 1963 model and only 10 by 50 feet. I would be in hog heaven if I had two more feet in width here.

Well when I moved here I figured this was the last stop for me so I decided to do it right. The room is concrete block with no windows and steel in the roof.
Two steel double lock doors with dead bolts. 5 safes with golden rods, a full time dehumidifier piped to empty down the hill a bit, it is 12' by 25 feet
with two coats of basement water seal paint on the walls with two coats of grey semi-gloss on top of that, the floor is snap together plastic type stuff called
race deck with a vapor barrier under that, the ceiling is flake board with four tube fluorescents below insulation and the steel, two nice and cluttered work
benches, a fridge, a microwave and cable TV, five nice stools of different heights to put me where I want to be with the table I am working on, and a boom box
to drive the neighbors crazy on summer nights. Actually they are so far away they probably can't hear it even with the doors open. Only thing I really need
for the future are screen doors and better heat and air conditioning. I always knew what I wanted but never could find the money or the time till I retired and
divorced and moved. I love my time in the man cave! Oh by the way there is no phone out there either so no one can disturb me when I am out there. Yes Sir
Almost Heaven here in West Virginia! Oh and by the way it to gets sloppy and crowded at times usually in the summer when I am mainly hunting rifles but in the
winter I try and work my way through them. Old zeebill from hog heaven!!!!!

Yeah, my gun area is similiar. I have parts that have been laying in a pile for about 3 years now untouched, along with "project" rifles that have a
layer of dust on them, and are leaned up in corners under my staircase.
I have so little room I decided to stop buying rifles, unless I see one that I just can't walk away from. Otherwise I'm getting more into handgun shooting and collecting, lots of fun and MUCH easier to store and maintain! I am selling of my duplicate rifles and stuff I just don't ever shoot and turning the cash into handguns. Clear out a few shooter-grade Mausers and add another .38 or .357 to the collection, works for me!

I live in is a 1963 model and only 10 by 50 feetI used to live in one just like it only 10 feet shorter down on Buckroe Beach about 30 years ago. The local cops used to run us off for playing frisbee on 2nd St. & Seaboard

That 10 x 50 trailer sounds like it would make a good gun room. I think most of us have space problems. I would love to build a gun room in the basement, but
my wife would not understand. I am running out of space in the garage for gun cabinets.

I think Stan's got the right idea, as I pretty much stopped buying long guns a couple of years ago
handguns take up a lot less space in a safe
and in an emergency, or when moving, they are easier to transport like a lot of other folks here, I'm just getting more picky about what follows me home these days but no plans on trimming the herd for the time being Bob |

You could convert a room closet... replace the hollow door with a solid door, and install several dead-bolt locks.

Moved into a smaller house with a smaller 'gun room'. My response to that? Get more guns! I've given up on worrying about how my wife will
dispose of my formidable collection because I choose to live in the here and now and it is something I enjoy very much. Every day I go into the sanctum and
clean something, fix something, ---.

If that was shot at me on account of my pic posts, I'm flattered someone actually pays attention to me. But yeah, I'm a landlord and I have a tiny room to store all of my stuff in. I have a gun safe and a few guns on stands ( only did this with bolt actions , put the bolts in the case) so I sympathize with folks who really do not have the space to store. Of course my gun collection is only about 18 guns now. May have to boot the rents out and get a real job if I get more.
How do I stop some big mean mother hubbard from tearing me a structurally superfluous new behind? The answer is a gun, and if that don't work use more gun.

My collection has never been large. Finances don't you know- have to sell or trade to get something new often times. But I feel I have got original in
storing mine having neither money nor space for a safe. But there's this dead wall space behind the bath tub....
But I just now, today as a matter of fact! finally got a closet all my
own! I intend to go for camoflage over strength. It's got a small
door. I'm gonna get one of those cloth shoe storage things you hang over a door,...

All I can say is thank God I have a closet the size of my last room...despite having an absurd amount of guns, I do have room for them all and not even 25% of
the room is taken up!

since Kelly left I've considered converting one of the many extra bedrooms into a gun room and moving out of my current (very large) walk in closet. But I
figure I'll have to sell the house soon anyway and don't want to create more work for myself.

I agree with a closet conversion- have a similar thing myself...and space is limited too, so some guns have to go on the walls:)
