I still have ~80lbs of AN on-hand (I use it for "backyard bluing") so I will have to give it a try ... with a small amount.

I'm looking forward to your range report. Some people use plastic soda bottles for mixing and containment.

Hi,

You guys need to be careful. The ground you are treading on is filled with danger for the un-trained. Finely divided aluminium is regulated by law if it is
finer then 400 mesh. Mixing 400 mesh or finer aluminium and almost any oxidizer will make a shock sensitive explosive compound that can be set off with a 22
rifle. Have you ever heard of flash powder or M80's........Aluminium powder and Potassium Perclorate. By the way, more then 50ml/gr of this stuff in a
container is very bad Juju with the ATF so know what you are mixing. Tannerite must be using some kind of compound mixture that gets their product around the
law. Be careful, I don't want to read in the paper about anyone getting hauled off for making explosives. The ATF does not take "I did not know"
as a excuse.

I also have an additional document on how to mix safely, what's the acceptable and legal limit you can produce and some history behind it. I don't see
a way to attach the doc within the Yuku E-mail, but it's early and I'm still waking up. If you'd like a copy of the doc, just shoot me an external
E-mail address and I'll forward it on.

It's good you ran that experement in the snow.
I started a small (15 square foot?) range fire yesterday with some tracers out of my 1917 Eddystone. Even though we had a sprinkle yesterday AM it's still not dry enough to be safe. The fire was at the 300 yard distance, and an eleveation gain of 150 feet or so, maybe more. Running in my heavy boots on sage and desert grass I thought I'd have a heart attack by the time I got to stomping range. I THOUGHT I was in great shape. Then, jogging back to the firing line, I tripped on a root of some sort and fell and rolled. Thank God I did not (re) injure my back. I sometimes get bad sciatica, and just got over a case. Oh well, great day otherwise. My buddy, much smarter than myself, drove the SUV up the hill rather than running. |

"Ooooh, tannerite and chicken!!!!!!"
That's not a pretty picture! Not to put too fine a point on it, but I'd have to say that we all live with potential explosives, every day and all the time. Being aware of it and handling them properly is the key! |
