Well guys,
It was long overdue, but finally got the 5.45 x 39mm M&P 15 on paper. Visited Smokepole50 today (12 hours round trip for me) and we shot the M&P! I
should have measured the tape we were shooting at, but it was about 1.5 times the size of a credit card. Tried out both Wolf 70 grain and Bulgarian surplus
7N6 55 grain (yes corrosive) ammo. Here are the results:
This is me shooting the Wolf ammo. (LEFT PIECE OF TAPE). First group fell to the left, second group dead center after a sighting adjustment.

This is me (LEFT PIECE OF TAPE) shooting the Bulgarian surplus. I sucked!
For some reason, the target seemed really blurry and I had trouble. The small holes over the right piece of tape note Smokepole's
attempt....he did much better!

Here is the rifle. Smith and Wesson M&P 15 in 5.45 x 39mm. Magpul stock and Rock River Arms "ERGO" grip with National Match (RRA) trigger
group. Although Patrick Sweeny writing in the S&W magazine last Spring opined that one might need the heavy-duty hammer spring S&W ships with the
rifle, the RRA "NM" set of springs worked perfectly with both examples of steel-cased ammo. Silver Bear ammo goes off each time as well.

Cleaning after corrosive ammo:
Did a field strip at the range immediately after shooting....ran some wet (water) patches down the bore and poured some water on all the internals. When back
at home, "went crazy" again as I am known for by a strip down of the bolt and removal of handgards. Internals were soaked, rinsed, and
tooth brushed off in scalding hot water (hot as I could stand) and I literally brought the handgardless upper into the shower to be sprayed off with my MOEN
shower massage. Never can seem to clean the gas tubes right even with pipe cleaners...
. Hit the bore with a .22 cal. bore snake then used a blow dryer to heat up all
parts and thoroughly dry the weapon. Rem oil was then used to oil and lube then reassembled rifle.
I think if one has a good supply of 5.45 surplus the complete upper in 5.45 is a good idea! I'm sure I can do better (at least as good as Smokepole) when
shooting the surplus. Wolf ammo is much cheaper then about any .223 out there so the savings would add up over time.
