Had a light coat of surface rust and some crud in the bore, I attacked the bore first thing and it shines now.
I rubbed a section of rust off of the exterior metal at the shop and figured some oil and a rag would take care of a lot of the yuck, so I asked what the best price on it would be, they replied what was on the sticker that was on the buttstock.
I hemmed and hawed a little, then went ahead and paid. Did the 4473 for no reason after we got home and took it apart to find the 1895 tang date......but of course, you can't educate a shop owner about that stuff, they don't want to know.
The stock has the roughest Finn splice I've ever seen. The left side of the upper portion of the morphed stock sticks way out compared to the right side. It looks like they literally grafted two stock halves together to make this one. The lower half was German capture stamped.
Here's the before pictures,
I'll post some after pictures for comparison after things dry out outside....too wet and nasty to try pictures this morning here.
