Taking a trip: what guns to bring? |

I've decided to go ahead an buy a yatch and try my hand at sailing the world. What arms should I stow aboard?

The usual. AK and AR. A good sidearm would include a 1911, or given the marine environment, a Glock.

Lemme see, given the conditions of the high seas these days?
1) Browning M2HB in a pedestal mount (preferably two) with Elcan sight and a Night Observation Device like an AN/TVS 4 2) FN/LAR (class III of course) with ACOG 3) M2 carbine with ACOG 4) 1911A1 (stainless steel, Government model, tritium sights and laser sight) 5) M 79 "Blooper" 6) Case of M 33 Fragmentation grenades or MECAR Rifle Grenades but that's just me. eb

Couple or more pump 12ga. in stainless with the largest magazine capacity available. 00 and high quality slugs; lots of them. After I had Eb's inventory in
hand, especially the two or more of the M2HB (I REALLY LIKE this recommendation - reach out and touch someone far away or near). Lots of bright light to shine
at the target. Kevlar all around too unless something better is available.

Maybe something incendiary to throw on the pirate's boarding craft. Moltov coctail? That would get 'er done.

All great suggestions, but the reality is that you won't be allowed to visit very many interesting places, or much of anywhere else for that matter, if you
carry almost any firearms of any kind. Heck these days you have to check each states laws before you can even cross a state line in this country with firearms.
In a boat on foreign shores, you can just about forget about it!

Commercial cargo ships are prohibited from carrying arms in international waters... why do you think the Somali pirates have so little trouble picking them
off...?
If you are going to carry illegally, I'd recommend an M2 .50-cal Browning as a deck gun, an AK as a rifle/carbine, and a Beretta M9 as a sidearm. In addition, one of these might be of benefit as well...

Back to the Molotov cocktail.

I believe Molotov cocktails are considered destructive devices.

My father has a 35 foot Mainship and travels back and forth between West Palm beach and the Bahamas. He carries on board a SS Mini14 with 30 round mags. As
long as it does not leave the boat in the Bahamas the Bahamian Gov. is fine with it. He has to check it in and out of customs every time he enters the country
and they count every round.
I would take a Garand. I once had a conversation with a fellow on the net about his boat gun. It seems he flew a boat plane around over in the islands of the pacific and liked the Garand because it looked like "just a rifle" but had almost the fire power of a M1A. Smokepole |

I don't think I've ever gotten so many replies so quickly....
I remember someone posting this same question BUT FOR REAL back in 2004.....someone suggested the "marine" shotguns as-well-as taking several S&W J-frames, and somebody suggested a .50 BMG rifle in order to "disable engines." There is no way I'd take to the seas without arms. Unless boats are searched upon entering harbor, the least of my firepower would be my HK flaregun. eb: good idea on the night vision.....I'd have missed that!
The harpoon guns are pretty funny, especially the pic. hsc |

Can't imagine dealing with the idiocy of international laws. Laws that prevent you from defending yourself from a group of drooling morons in a motor
boat, coming aboard with AK's & taking over. They ought to be able to sink those guys long before they come into AK range.
State laws are bad enough. I can carry a loaded handgun in the car here in MO. If I forget to unload it and put it in a case when I visit my folks in IL I would be thrown in jail. |

When an employer states that no weapons are allowed on property, I HAVE TO CONTAIN MYSELF not to ask "well then is armed security provided for each
employee?"

high speed cruise wrote: Kentucky law specifically addresses this. As long as a firearm is kept within the owner's vehicle, and is not removed from the vehicle nor "brandished" within the vehicle, no employer may prohibit the vehicle owner from possessing a firearm within their own vehicle, whether it is parked in the employer's parking lot or not. -Bean

I would bring whatever you are willing to give as a gift to a greedy and corrupt customs official ...since most of the world doesn't enjoy the freedom of
gun ownership like we do:)

All I can control is my own workplace.
I don't actually have a sign that says 'CCW's Are Welcome'; but they are. My nurse has a Judge in her purse (big purse, don't mess with my nurse), and my partner's nurse has a .38 Ruger in her desk. Other's may also be armed, but I don't ask or need to know. My office remains in America. |
