Posts: 1 (11/01/09 07:44 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None I have a Swedish Ljungman with a handguard crack just forward of the front band where the gas tube passes under the hand guard. I think this is a very common place to have a crack. The crack was previously glued and the repair separated. It looks like the glue was that water based yellow carpenters glue. I put a small chunk of the dried glue in water and it dissolved over a day or two. I have read cabinetman's write up on repairing stock cracks with super glue. I would like to remove the old glue before trying super glue. Is there anything wrong with sticking the cracked end of the stock in a glass of water for a few days to dissolve the glue and then use a tooth brush to clean out the crack? After letting the stock fully dry, I would then follow the superglue process described by cabinetman.

Posts: 5388 (11/02/09 04:46 PM) Host Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Hello Curmudgeon. Glad you spoke up. NO! By no means should you wet that handguard for your Ljungman in water. That thing would twist bend like a pretzel in no time. To remove the old yellow glue, grab a heat gun and just work the excess goo off that piece as best you can. Under good heat, it'll just get soft and pliable and should just pull off the surface pretty easily. Get it down to where you can join the two pieces with a good, close contact. Once that's done, just get some thick CA from the local hobby shop and clue that thing back together with it, not yellow glue. See, yellow carpenter's glue is actually a great adhesive but it requires surface to really shine and also that surface has to be clean and dry. Gun parts tend to have some oils in them which makes the yellow glue not stick. CA, otoh, will work perfectly here for you. Just be prepared to rubber band it together ovenight and let it set up.
