Sounds like a nice one, I don't know about rare though.
Did you bring it home after you found it?

First off are you saying Big 5 is selling non-refurb Mosin's? Reason I ask is I have never seen anything but refurbed ones there. I would say the rifle is
common with the rough machining of the War being visible to you in your inspection. If the rifle is refurbed they are most often all matching with or without
EP and line outs. Sounds like it will be a great shooter by your description and I hope you enjoy it on the range. Good Luck with it and I do hope you enjoy
shooting it! Bill

Here's a pair of actions, '42 & '43. the rough as a cob one is the '42.

I can personally attest to seeing non-refurbs at Big 5. They looked remarkably like Finn-captures, if not fresh from the battle field. I would have loved to
pick one up (this was a couple months ago), but I was short $$$ and before I could even blink- they (there were two of them) were gone. And I haven't seen
any more [at Big 5] since...
Congrats on your find DanM1man

When Big 5 started carrying milsurps around here, about fifteen years ago, the Mosin Nagant rifles they had were mostly in horrible condition. But they were
cheap. I still have two 91/30s that I have never fired. One is a 1934 Tula hex receiver also. The stocks on both of them look like they were used as tomato
stakes for twenty years.
Now the ones they are peddling are the refurbished ones and boy, what a difference in appearance! I have two of the refurbed 91/30's that I got at gun shows, but came from Big 5 for the previous owner and they look like they were made yesterday. Curt |
