Was a comment made by MountainDoc and myself that it was pretty much usless but what a blast to shoot. I'm sure we all own such a gun and wanted to know what yours is. Mine is a semi-auto MG42. Now this gun really has no practical use for me yet I love it like a long lost brother. Can't hunt with it, it's not very accurate, takes a while to set up, it's heavy with the tripod (heck even without the tripod), eats alot of ammo and wife says it's the ugliest thing she's ever seen. But to me it's a beauty. I've had it for years and it still makes me smile and my heart skips a beat when I shoot it. This "useless" gun has brought me more pleasure and made me more friends than any gun I've ever owned. Posts: 1322 (11/04/09 09:40 PM) Forum Co-host Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I suppose one would expect me to say "my Romarm Draco," since it's what inspired the thread, but I have since found several reviews of these pistols as being quite accurate off the bench with 5-round or 10-round mags at 50-100 yards. That puts them, at least theoretically, into the category of long range competition pistol (some people were reporting 2" groups at 50 yards benched and while I admit I'm going to have to see that to believe it, I can accomplish the same thing with my MAK-90, so it's not totally out of the realm of believability...). So what about the AR-7 I have that can't go one full mag without jamming? No, not that, either. That rifle got my Mom into shooting. She just used it as a single shot, but really enjoyed it and actually hit stuff at 25 yards, too. The Siamese Mauser I can't find loaded ammo or brass for? No, because once I find either, I'll have a shootable and (probably) accurate rifle. No, the award has to go to my Lee-Enfield L59A1 Drill Purpose Rifle. The barrel is sectionalized, the receiver walls are ground down, the receiver is partially sectionalized, the barrel and receiver are welded together and the barrel is welded closed, there's no opening for the firing pin, and it basically can never fire. Aside from hanging on the wall, the only thing I do with it is teach firearms safety to friends with it (since I know there's no way in heck it can possibly ever fire). But for some reason, I just find that rifle really cool. Not sure why, but I do.

Never could get it to spark properly never hit anything and was a chore to clean it if I did shoot it. Well i gave it to a friend and he loves it not sure why. Now one I do own is a Marlin mod 60 jam o matic. The thing jams on every shot it needs a new recoil bushing, it has a nice bushnell scope but the cross hairs are broken. And when it does fire does not even come close to hitting anything despite several attemps to zero it. I still have it and it is the safe queen of my collection. I don't even bother to take it out to see if it needs oiled or to check for rust. But I did trade it one day to a friend and it found its way back some how, been to the pawn shop twice and not even a gun dealer wants it for parts. it seems like it never wants to leave me. Like a girl that begs to be with you after you break up with her. Cant figure it out so yes I still have it. It just sits in a place where the sun don't shine.. Mike

If the dang thing didn't jam all the time, I'd shoot it more. With the linking tool, I can fill belts faster than I can empty one. That ain't right.

Posts: 3791 (11/05/09 05:26 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	My Mosin M91 Remington Cadet rifle. It is not a weapon per say it may be used as a club I guess. It is unfireable with a clipped firing pin, pinned mag door, no sights, no ejector, and partially finished barrel. It is a drill rifle and about the size of an O3 Springfield which they were made to use instead of the real thing. Mine was found in the wall of a one room cabin in Maryland during it's destruction to make way for new construction. There is part of a name stamped into the butt-stock and other than that little or no wear on anything. I feel sure it was used in some military academy at one time and just love to think about who had maybe carried learning their trade or life's work. Probably one of the few or only Mosins I own that never will make it to the range. I still enjoy it though! Bill ELT

Posts: 5528 (11/05/09 06:03 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I second the 1927 Kahr Arms Thompson, I wouldn't say "useless" but it's a very fun carbine/rifle/semisubgun or whatever it's called, it's basically just a very heavy stocked .45 ACP pistol. Without the "fun switch" it falls into my "no use except fun" category since you can't hunt anything with it, no use for home defense, have better options for around the property pest control, and other than bringing it to the range once in a while it barely sees the light of day. I think once I get around to modifying a real Lyman sight for it, it willl become more "useful" as it's very accurate out to 100 yards and beyond, but otherwise I just use it for either blasting cheap (well, cheap-er) .45 ACP ammo or shooting very tight groups at handgun ranges of 25 yards. I would also say all of my cap and ball revolvers, in present day they have no real "practical" use and no historical value being just repros of historical weapons, but they fill a "hole" in my service handgun collection and allow me to experience what it was like during the period from 1840-1870's and later when civilians and soldiers actually had to use these things in combat and to protect themselves on the frontier. Plus the Colt open top percussion revolvers are my favorite and I think the best looking revolvers ever made.

I don't think I'll have hoards of bad guys kicking in the door, and it makes a very poor hunting/varmit gun. Once, it dispatched a sparrow that had been hit by a car and later it actually (helped) prevent my car from being broken into! So from that standpoint, other than my Browning BDM, it's done more to keep me safe than any other gun I own. hsc
