There have already been the theories thrown out there that he was a "sleeper" terrorist or was a disgruntled army officer recruited by a terrorist cell..........to me it doesn't fit the profile. A psychiatrist with a doctorate in psychology, usually get the rank of Capt. in the Army I'm not sure how it works for these guys, I know most Dr.'s start as CPT.'s but I could be wrong, but when I heard the theory of the "recruited terrorist" I thought sure, it's possible a guy who had recently joined the army and was unhappy with life may have turned to being "recruited" maybe if it was a younger guy of low rank. It seems less likely a 39 year old Dr. of psychology would be recruited, or be a "sleeper" that joined the army just to commit an act of terror.

I go with the "just snapped" theory, maybe financial, marital or other troubles, maybe stress, I mean they claim he was "upset over upcoming deployment" but I mean, how hard can a deployment be for a Major, a Psychiatrist no less, I mean come on, seriously. It's not like he's out there suckin' with a line platoon day in and day out.

I confess, when I heard the guy had an Arabic name I had my theories too, but when I learned his age and rank and he was a Dr. it seemed a bit less likely. But you can't rule anything out anymore, and I want to know who these suspected other people involved were.

It's scary, if it happened at Hood it could happen anywhere, even here at Ft. Drum. It will be in the back of my mind for a while here as I think maybe a copycat psycho may "wake up" here and try something being inspired by the events at Hood.........there are some really, really sick people walking around here at Drum, a few are in my company.......... God, I miss being in PA and the comfort of having "protection" whenever I go anywhere. Right now my hip feels the emptiness of my Ruger Speed Six, and I also miss the comfort of having my "house guns" to keep me safe inside my home and my property.........it's ironic and funny to me that most people assume a military base is the last place someone would "try something" but I feel more unprotected here, right now than I do at home. I laugh when I read the CNN forums, stupid people are like "people in the army generally have easy access to guns" Yeah, right, unless I can get inside an armored vault I'm no where near a firearm right now, you can't even legally carry a knife above 4" here in NY state. If the Army allowed CCW permits on base and miltary people to enjoy the same rights and allow carry on bases maybe someone could have dropped this psycho before he took 11 lives. I assume it took a minute for the police to arrive and shoot him, while he gunned down 10 unprotected and unarmed soldiers. He was a coward, he should have done the decent thing and went into a dark room and blew his own brains out if he was that upset.

I had heard he was shot and killed and he was referred to as the "slain gunman" but then I hear today on the news that he is alive and in stable condition after several bullet wounds.

Another reason police should still carry .357 revolvers!!! Then trial and sentence would have been carried out by a 145 gr. HP.

On one hand, though, it may be better he survived so now we can find out for what and why he commited this atrocity. And then hopefully we can execute him.

I won't get off on too much of a rant but being in the army there are lots of useless people who remain on the payrolls because it's really hard to get someone out of the army for just making some unpopular comments. Plus, any good JAG lawyer will defend his right to free speech, free religion and all that so he can talk and blog, email etc. all day long about whatever he wants, although to a point because the army has guidelines about what you can't put out on the public forum, i.e. internet blogs.......some soldiers got in trouble recently for depicting themselves doing all kinds of wierd and crazy crap in uniform and putting it on MySpace.

For example, I can't put a pic of myself in full ACU's blind drunk burning a picture of _________ (insert whoever here) with a smoking bong in the background, yada yada because it "brings discredit to the service" and I could face UCMJ action.

There is no use of the FN FiveSeven pistol in the US Army, at least by any conventional forces and I pretty much have researched everything we use or issue, or "can" be used. Even the SF guys pretty much stick to 9mm's and .45's. It's not like some people think, like anyone in the Army can just sign out a 5.7mm pistol and some AP ammo at your local armory. Even us infantry guys aren't allowed to take M4's and other arms inside barracks rooms when we clean them, they have to be in a common area and if a weapon is unaccounted for by the arms room guys after the turn in, the entire post gets locked down until it is found and we play "hands across Ft. Drum" until we come up with it, usually misplaced INSIDE the arms room!!!. A few people out there picture an Army base like there's just guys walking around with SAW's and dudes throwing 240's in the back of their cars and driving around.........definitely NOT the case. Plus ammo is so controlled here, it's not like I can just grab a can of 5.56 and basically having ammo on you, in your car, or in your on-post housing is a crime.

I'm just waiting for it, for our great president and everyone else to blame the gun, the ammo, a gun shop for selling it to him, this 2nd hand PTSD crap, anything else other than the fact that we had a Muslim nutcase who was allowed to stay in the Army and then cracked and killed people. Banning handguns due to this incident would be like banning cars because of a deadly 20 car pileup on a freeway. The forums and blogs are already sickening, about people calling for "tighter gun control" and other stuff, because people who are already anti gun will quickly blame firearms for a mental case going insane. It's the easy scapegoat, but then not one of them has an answer when asked as to why cities and areas with "will issue" CCW laws saw a drop in violent crime across the board........also, a point I make is if we had a "gun free" society like England, then the nutcase STILL would have had a gun, the cops wouldn't have, and the unarmed cop would not have been able to shoot the bad guy thus preventing more deaths. But, the armed policewoman put 4 slugs in the fool and stopped further bloodshed.

If the Army is good at one thing it's CYA.........from the lame "safety books" we have to fill out to go home on passes and holiday block leave, pages and pages of crap so that if you wrap your car around a tree on the way home or while at your leave destination while you're (tired,drunk,on meds,etc.) the Army can be like "hey, he signed this safety book saying he wouldn't drive without 6-8 hours of sleep, would check the weather before driving, yada yada yada". Therefore, not their fault it's the soldier who is to blame. And then the Army can pretend it cares about soldiers while it looks for ways to escape blame if you get hurt.

Anyway, if I had a family member who was killed or even hurt in this shooting I would be livid right now, outraged, as to why someone like this was allowed to remain in the Army......what we've done by allowing anyone with a pulse to join our armed forces is allow the enemy to not only occupy our country but infiltrate us from within our own military. I have seen it myself, people who have diagnosed psychiatric disorders who are ON MEDS allowed to just walk around every day and even take part in LIVE fire ranges!!!! People need to realize it is NOT guns that are the problem, but incidents like this are caused by the offender, and the positions we allow them to remain in. The whole grenade in the tent thing, the soldier who snapped and killed 3 NCO's, all this is not because of what some people say "crazy people with access to guns" it's the fact that red flags are ignored and instead of a swift chapter and a career at Burger King they are allowed to remain in the mlitary under the stresses and day to day bombardment with negativity that we all face in the army.........and they wonder why once in a while a weak minded person "snaps".

This is just one reason, there are many, as to why in 9 months when my ETS comes up I am getting far far away from the Army.
