Sorry if this question is in the wrong area. Moderators, feel free to move this if needed.

My question is this: was there an AK47 muzzle threading tool to cut the left hand thread on Clinton era gun-ban AKs going around on this forum?
If not, I apologize for my fuzzy memory. Aging does that

If it IS so, is it still available to "borrow"?

Before you thread it you gotta be 922 compliant. You know the correct number of US parts. The number of US parts goes up if you have a threaded muzzle.

Yep, although usually only by one part if it's an AK. In fact, if your muzzle device is made in the USA (like a ton of AK-74 style muzzlebreaks are, plus the birdcage-style AR flash suppressors made for AK's), you should be fine. If you want a Romanian slant break, a Hungarian AMD-65 break, or a Bulgarian Krinkov break, *then* you have to replace another foreign part.

Bought a US made slant muzzle brake. Was just wondering if the threading tool was still floating around here - if it was here.

I am assuming I do NOT have to permanently mount this brake since the completely-useless-gun-ban has expired. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this count.

Well, I'm NOT sure if you have to permanently attach the break or not, but I do know that there are a couple AK threading kits on gunbroker right now. Search for "AK Thread."

Brownell's sells every type threading die you could ever ask for, for threading the muzzle on any type of firearm, I'm thinking.

Thanks everyone, I guess I will have to pony up the cash and buy the threading tool. Reading other forums, it looks as if I do not have to attach the brake permanently. That went away with the ban

Can you let us know how it goes? Although not subject to 922(r), I'd like to thread the barrel on my Romarm Draco AK pistol for a slant break and having an example of what to do would REALLY help.

922r has nothing to do with the "Assault Weapons Ban". It pre-dates the AWB, and is still "the law". It involves a minimum number of "compliance parts", if the firearm in question has the "evil features".

There's a man on the Gunsnet forum who's still renting the threading kit.
He's "ATAK, Inc".

I didn't mention him because I didn't know he was still doing this.
I rented a kit from him several years ago, and everything worked well.
You send him the money, he sends you an entire threading kit, including the die, a handle, the TAT, and even threading fluid.
You can keep it for at least a week, then when you're done, clean the kit up and ship it back.

I did a rental of his kit & threaded up 3 of my "post-bans" after the sunset. Easy to use kit took about 5 minutes to do the job
