I've been eyeing an opportunity to add a 7x57mm Mauser to my collection, is the $300 asking price in line with current values for these? I know the Turks and Yugo Mausers in 7.92x57 are considerably cheaper these days...

Three examples showed up recently at the local Gander Mountain: G/VG condition, one has a matching bolt/receiver, they're still caked in cosmoline and they
look pretty solid all around.

These are being supplied by I/O to everyone else, Gander, SG, etc....
You can get the antiques direct from I/O for a lot less than the retailers offer it for. ** the phone rang as I was replying to this and had to cut my response short. For $300, to get a Good or better condition 1895 Chilean with a matching bolt, I think in today's world of milsurp it is a decent price. If you did order direct from I/O you can get them a little cheaper, but then tack on $20 or more for shipping and you're right back up to $300 again, so it's all about the same. You can wait and hope a walk-in at a show has one in nicer condition and also has it priced too low, but for a sure thing, grab a Gander rifle.

If you want one, and see one with a matching bolt at that price, You might be well advised to grab it, if it is otherwise in a condition acceptable to you. To
get one by mail-order sight unseen, with a crap shoot for chances on a matching bolt, it would have to be a lot cheaper to be worth the risk in my mind!

I picked up one last month at a local gun shop for 110 plus tax. Matching except floor plate. Fair condition with darkish bore but strong rifling. Bore is
oversized like I have heard that many are and it won't shoot standard bullets. I have some cast for it that are .287 that shoot okay but really need .288/9
I think. I would like to upgrade to a nicer one.
