11 months later--my daughter is 100% except for a few scars....for her. Cheapdaughter #3 is now taking drivers ed--the thoughts and memories of the past scare
me. In the overall scheme of things, all is well.....I just worry a lot!

Yee-ow!!!
MD, I have lots of time on my hands right now, so you will be having many prayers going out from me in your behalf. I live on a mountain ridge-line, so they (the prayers) don't have as far to travel. Just make sure you let
things heal up good before riding again. I've survived a few spills on motorbikes in years past and I still ache in various places before it rains or
snows... but I'd rather not be able to predict the weather that way

I will guess that you're "six" awareness probably helped some - amazing isn't it that people don't SEE bikes? Best of luck in the
healing. God speed the recovery.

Way glad you are basically okay Doc.
I'm thinkin' that pretty lady in LA ought to be flying up to visit you for the weekend now! If my experiences are anything to go by, your hand will now be the best weather prognosticator you have ever known. As young as you are, it may still take a few years for it to get really good at it though! Wishing you a full and speedy rehab, and I'll also put in a good word for you on high!!! |

Thanks guys. My fellowship with you all is indeed very helpful.
I only used 2 fingers to type in the first place, so I'm not that much worse off as my trigger finger was one of the undamaged minority. Here's the lesson I learned. The accident was 100% the girls fault, BUT I could have prevented it. fellow motorcyclists learn from this: I was on the wrong bike for the conditions. I was on a 200 cc Zongshen, a very nice Chinese SuperMoto bike with a top speed of about 70. I was on a highway with a speed limit of 70. No one goes less than 75, so I'm the slowest one out there, even if I'm legal, there is a closing speed. If I was on my very powerful Gold Wing, and the same thing occured, I'd have noted the severe closing speed and flicked my right wrist and gone from 65 to over 100 in about 2 seconds, eliminating the threat and nothing would have happened. From now on I will stick to only secondary roads with a 50 MPH speed limit when riding little less powerful bikes. The safety advantages motorcycles have over cars are acceleration, speed, braking, and low speed manuverability. I denied myself the one advantage, accereration, that would have saved me. |

I hope you heal up good. I know injuries like this can be painful. I was just chatting with a friend in Napa, California about our bike riding experiences and
what caused me to quit riding motorcycles back on 1979. For some reason, people just could not see you or else it did not register in their minds. This was
before the days of cell phones, so they can't be blamed for that. But three times in one week I had to lay that Yamaha RD250 down. The first two times were
not bad, as I landed on my feet. But the last time I was going faster and this old guy about 80 years old driving a 1958 Chevy station wagon pulls out in front
of me. I could see the reflection of my headlight in his glasses, so he was looking right at me and still he pulls out of a side road. Down went the bike and
down went me, scraping up all sorts of dirt and crap off the highway as I slid on my backside. Ruined a brand new pair of pants and I was picking sand and
small pebbles out of my hide for a couple of weeks it seemed. Wiped out my turn signal, brake lever, handgrip, throttle cable, passenger foot pegs, right hand
exhaust pipe and muffler and everything on the right side of the bike.
People stopped to see if I was ok, and I was, just skinned up considerably. I nursed the bike home and the next day it had a for sale sign on it, and I never got on a bike since. I was married at the time and my youngest daughter was on the way to join her two older sisters and I felt they needed a daddy in their lives instead of their daddy being in a pine box. Curt |

Well Doc, this is your second accident since I met you. Glad you are o.k., but remind me not to ever fly with you.

Dang, Doc, I'm sorry to hear that! I ride, too and constantly watch the antics of those around with with suspicion to near terror, depending on what
they're doing.
Glad you came through it more or less in one piece and he's hoping your wounds mend quickly. |

Bill, you're in my thoughts and prayers. Your guardian angel was keeping watch over you. I'm one of those people who has to keep focused on the road
to drive safely. When I have my cell phone with me in the car it's turned off. If I have to call, I pull over and stop first. I hope you'll still be
able to work! Take care, Carl.

Sorry to read about your accident, Doc. Glad you're gonna be ok.
I've ridden many, many miles and seen my share of accidents. A guy HAS to ride "defensively"......all the time. You're in my thoughts and prayers. Now, get rid of that @!&*#! Chinese mini bike!

Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes, guys. It does help.
Yesterday I was hurting bad, but today seems a little better. I hope I'm turning the corner. Drove the pickup to church today. It's not quite PTSD but it seems everyone out there is driving like an idiot and I was glad to be in a 4,000 plus pound 4X4 Ford. In a little while, if I feel up to it, I'm going to my buddy's range with a .22 Henry rifle. I figure the tube magazine is easy to fill, I can work the lever with my good fingers, and I don't have to clean it. I wear latex gloves for cleaning, no way I could get them on my swollen hands. Guess no pelvic or prostate exams for a while. Also, I can't use a scalpel or needle holder or whatever until I can get the gloves on. Breast exams should still be OK. Who knows, might be good therapy for my aching fingers. That insurance company better come through! |

Doc, glad you're all right!!!! I read in the local paper the 18 YO twit that almost killed you was given a negligent driving ticket? Seems a bit
light to me? I cut a flap of skin over my knuckle one time when I was chopping some kindling wood and you could see the bone. I almost passed out right then
and there. Looking at my fingers bent over at 90 degrees and bone visible I would have lost it I think. I guess Dr's are tougher than the rest of us or
they wouldn't be doctors, paramedics, nurses, etc. How long do you think you will be off work?
