A couple years ago I bought a very well worn Pietta-made Remington 1858 New Army .44. The whole reason I bought it was because it was cheap and it had
potential as a good winter project.... or so I thought. Well, this week I started digging into the rebuilding of this revolver and much to my surprise many of
the replacement parts don't fit. I don't mean they are off a little bit, I mean some parts would take massive machining to make them work. That got me
scratching my head and doing research... and I found out something new... The revolver I have is Pietta's "Shooter's Special". I never heard
of it before and it's been hard finding info on it. What I know is that parts are different. The "Shooter's Special" had different barrels
with a different style front sight and the hammer, hand, and cylinder stop are different. What made the identity of mine difficult to ascertain is the fact
that the barrel has been replaced, so it was not obvious that it was something different than the normal 1858 Remington reproductions. It's been
interesting finding the right parts, too. So far the only place that I have found that offers the parts I need is Marstar up in Canada. So, if anyone might now
of any place else that has parts, by all means let me know. Mainly I wanted to post this up so that people are aware that there are some variations that can
exist to bite you in the butt

I'm still going to try and get it in firing shape, and hopefully I can. The parts are close enough that I am sure I can do enough frame/part
mods to get the Pietta parts to work. I just feel really stupid right now
