Honor Guard Rifles in China |
Lead | |
|
Today's paper carried a picture of the US C-in-C reviewing an honor guard in China and it appears that they were packing SKS rifles with bayonets extended.
When I look at a picture like that, I am not looking at the soldiers or who is reviewing them, just their rifles. But my question is, is the SKS still used
for such ceremonial purposes in China today? Heck, it was back in 1956 that the Chinese adopted the SKS rifles. That would put them one of the longest
serving rifles for that service in the world.

Hello Curt,
It hasn't been too long ago someone posted links showing the Kings Guard (I believe) in either Norway or Denmark....and they were marching with M1 Garands. That probably "trumps" the SKS. edit: The SKS is probably much easier to handle for such things, than an AK, which would probably be their other option. Right? I guess that's what their alternative would be. No big ole magazine hangin out there.

Yeah, one of those long magazines could poke the eye out of the person doing the review. Which would not be a bad thing in my opinion!

If they weren't such little fellas they'd probably have some accidental piercings with the bayonets extended.....

Seems like I saw a Russian Honor Guard using SKS's recently. At least in the Putin era.

I think the SKS makes a better "Honor Guard" rifle than an AK-47. I think the 3rd Infantry at Arlington National Cemetery still uses M-14s.

SKS is still being used in Russia for ceremonial occasions...the most famous being the Lenin mausoleum:)

The Swedish Kings mounted guard still carries M-94 Carbines on their daily mounted parade. What is even neater is they carry them loaded, round in chamber and
safety locked. I saw picts of it on Dutchmans web site. Very good show too.
