Hey Guys,

Has anyone tried one of the P-83's that J & G has in? I have A Bulgy Makarov, a P-64, and CZ-82, so I am kinda thinking I may need an P-83,
the ammo is still cheap (relatively) and it is kinda cool looking in a "Sinister" K.G.B. sort of way.....

WHY DO I COME HERE?

Right when I decide to focus my next couple hundred bucks on 4 skydives you guys suggest a gun that I simply MUST have???

LOL.

Two of em showed up today. They don't have the Polish Eagle like my commercial version has. The importer PW Arms did manage to rival Century in their ugly billboard.

I got out to the gun club recently to test out the P-83 that I just picked up from J&G Sales. It was about 40F, a little overcast and windy.

I took a few examples of my 9x18 (Makarov) calibre guns for a size and dimension comparison:

(Left to Right: Polish P-83, Polish P-64, Hungarian RK-59, CZ-82 and E. German Makarov)

I came in close (15 yards) for the head shots and further back for the torso shots (two mags each):

The gun fired and functioned flawlessly. It was much better than I had hoped or expected with relatively little noticeable recoil. The mag release on the heel of the grip was a pleasant surprise as it popped the magazines out effortlessly unlike the clumsy spring pressure release on the Polish P-64 guns making for a quick swap out between magazines.

If all the Polish P-83 are as nice as this one then I would wholeheartedly recommend these guns to everyone. In fact I have ordered two more ("one is none and two is one"). I guess I would rank these right along with the East German Makarovs and CZ-82s for quality and function and may even give the slight edge to the P-83 for quality, function and accuracy. The only thing I may do is perhaps paint the front sight for easier and quicker target acquisition but otherwise it is a nearly perfect sidearm imo.

Yes, they are great little guns. The first p-83 Wanad was so nice that I decided to add a couple more to the collection.Since they are somewhat limited in production thanks in part to the fall of Communism and the need to adopt to NATO standards, these could be the last P-83 imports in 9x18 mm cal. that we will see in this country. The P-83 of course replaced the P-64 as the Polish police and military sidearm.

P-64 pistols with custom wood Marschal grips (top) and camo Zee grips (bottom) and Leatherman case as a mag carrier.

Recently acquired P-83 pistols in original configuration.

After having run the first P-83 at the range I can see why they were chosen to replace the P-64 pistols. They are slightly larger but smooth triggers and magazines with an extra round capacity and the rubber grip is a plus.
