I've been logged out for a year, and I finally remembered my user name and password! Greetings all. I have been pursuing a new hobby of traditional
archery, but still have a soft spot for milsurps and have been lurking lo these many months.

I even have found a couple 50+ year old bows to collect and shoot. No use having it if you can't use it!

Welcome back. Looks like my old truck in the Army. Among my duties I was a truck driver, mainly of the 6x6s- ye olde deuce & a half and 5 tons.
I too have been working on traditional archery. I acquired an old Bear recurve 45# as befit my arthritis. I had a real nice Ben Pierson 60# long bow but I couldn't draw it any more and had to let it go. But some who tried it say my recurve feels heavier than 45. As it happens the arrows I settled on for shooting true are aluminum 2016s more suited to 50#+ that sort of supports that too. Do old bows get stiffer as they, uh, get old? (like us? ) But I am shooting traditional all the way down to finger release. Another
thing about my bow is that it seems happier with a Flemish twist string over an endless loop. Some one day I'll look into my own string making just too
busy right now. But I found a fellow on ebay that makes them to order for a fair price and from what I have received makes them good.
I haven't gotten myself to a point of being consistent enough to hunt it but maybe next year. One wonders if the time may be near when the ability to hunt the Kings forests silently may be a good thing.
A couple of broadheads I have been experimenting with. The top is an old "Wasp Cam/lok" I had from some 20 years ago when I hunted a cross bow. The lower is an old broad head from the 50's or 60s I was told. The where hollow bottom. I pressed a target point with superglue on it into them. the slow down the arrow somewhat but the results are pretty good. They may be obsolete but they sure look great! I have also read there is a school of thought that the two blade arrow cutting from first contact may be better, especially for marginal bows like mine, than the center point punching type like my Wasp there. At least they shoot well. See target below and yes, I was aiming specifically at center not being confident enough to pick and hit the little targets yet. That was at about 50' in my 'indoor range' (across the barn).
Recent targets...
my 'outdoor range' at about 25 yards. I'm still all over the roll at 30 but I've pretty much only started shooting from there. I haven't decided if the 28"or 29 " arrows are better yet there. There is a distinct preference for the longer ones at the shorter ranges.
