Man, I LOVE auctions.... |

Went to an auction Friday night...the money is tight, that's for sure, so things were going for less than usual. But- a $70 Arisaka? Nicer than the ones I
have, so I couldn't resist. Nor could I resist the VERY early Colt Detective Special, the Sig Sauer 220 with crimson trace, the NIB Dan Wesson, etc.,
etc.......I DO love an auction, especially when everyone there is interested in Remchester ultramagnums, handguns in rifle calibers, etc. Besides, it's my
duty to save these historical rifles from those who were overheard saying, "Yah, I could cut the stock back a leetle, and mebbe stick a scope mount on the
side so's I could hunt with it. "

Sounds like your lucky day, POB! Good for you. Around here it usually goes the other way. People get in bidding wars and overbid items of interest. It seems
like Dan Wesson revolvers often go fairly cheap, though, for some reason unknown to me. I don't have any Jap rifles....a $70 Arisaka sounds darned good to
me.

Enjoy the glow Bill! Auctions are feast or famine I have found. I just went through 5 days and nights of local auctions and I bought supper one evening.
Nothing else at all, even when one auction had 43 rifles and 2 pistols, nothing at all of interest to me. I learned a long time ago from things like this go
ahead of time ask questions about what else may not be on display for you and you can avoid a long time consuming evening. I avoided last nights and today by
asking and looking early. Look real close at the items and ask questions, frankly make a pain in the butt of yourself if you have to and find out what you feel
you need to know. If they don't have any answers impress upon them that they should expect these questions and they should know the answers. Don't go
to the ones that always say I don't know and let them know you will not be at any future ones because they don't know. All these things have an effect
believe me even if they seem to blow you off they do remember and most try to change their ways because they are trying to make a living at it. Good Luck and
Congrats Bill! Bill

I'd have gotten the Arisaka at that price too.

What is an Arisaka? Just kidding, but that is about how common they are around here. A couple years ago I was talking to another guy at the range and we were
discussing milsurps and another guy joined us who had some familiarity with milsurps, but not like most of us. We had to explain to him what an Arisaka was. It
has been at least five years since I last saw one at a gun show and it was all beat to heck, mum ground off, and screws in the stock holding it together.
Nothing I would want to contaminate my collection with.

I to enjoy auctions although around here the prices can get stupid quick occasionally some bargins do pop up. Last one I attended was near the end of October,
I took home a nice all matching Lithgow produced MKIII made in 1920, a matching 100 percent mint (looks unissued) Yugo 48A and an Erma 68A .380 Luger copy and
spent slightly less than 400.00 for all of them.
