Is it assumed that a Turk'ed rifle was received/used after WWI, therefore no collector value?
I would like to have an original configuration Gew 98 very much; I have only seen one in person & it had some Turk markings.
Thoughts?

I see these being described as having little or no collector value. As long as the rifle is German manufacture, what difference does it make? Turkey were
Germany were allies in WWI so......

I grabbed a Czech long rifle with the roller coaster sight that had been Turk'ed a few years ago after getting tired of trying to find a GEW 98 that was
affordable.
A rifle made/assembled by the Czechs using German parts leftover from WWII & then sold to the Turks.

It is my understanding that Germany sent Gew98s to Turkey as WWI aid in 1917-18. When the Ottoman Empire was reconstituted as the Republic of Turkey after WWI
it purchased Czech copies of the Gew98. These rifles, known as Vz98/22s, were delivered to Turkey as the shorter Vz24s were issued to the Czechoslovakian army
(1925-29 time period IIRC). I believe the roller coaster (lange vizer) sights on the initial production run of Vz98/22s were replaced with tangent sights with
Arabic numbers. Watching the auction sites gives me the impression that a Turked Gew98 or Czech copy can be bought for 50-60% less than a comparable unturked
Gew98.

People like to collect ORIGINAL unmolested rifles. While I make some allowances for m/m numbers I do not get modified and otherwise 'rebuilt' rifles
either. That is why "Turk" rifles are cheaper, demand.

If you collect Turkish rifles, they have some value in my opinion. Carl

Also, Turk'd Gew98's tend to be somewhat rough with few or no matching parts. Pitting under the wood is common, and wood condition can be poor. But I
have a decent condition Turk'd Gew98 and it is a welcome part of my Mauser collection. I was lucky enough to score an all-matching Gew98 earlier this
year... a bit rough but legit bringback.
