Posts: 3293 (11/27/09 09:48 AM) Veteran member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Caught "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" on last night while visiting my parents...knowing what the stories were really about when I saw that movie in the theatre I was so uplifted I was ready for the Rapture right then! (Felt uplifted last night as well). OK.....you have 30 minutes warning (which almost never happened in the books) before going to Narnia to help fight the White Witch's army. No time to order a new gun or even buy ammo, only what you have on hand you can bring....what weapons will you girde about yourself? Expect to be on foot but part of Aslan's forces under King Peter. hsc Me: since I know I would have to face animals and creatures as large as a polar bear and since that battle was largely fought at longer ranges, I'd pick an M1 Garand, if I had one!* Not having one and also not trusting my Ljungman or Hakim fully, ("favorite" doesn't mean best, as you know by now) I'd pick my S/147 K98 with Persian bayonet, two Turk bandolers loaded with 1970's Yugo surplus (140 rounds), my Glock 22 and every mag I have, my Walther P1 9mm (and every mag I have), my H&K flare gun, and a small corrosive ammo cleaning kit. Not having a proper helmet I'd toss on my skiing helmet. If I'm still mobile my K-bar knife would hang whereever I could put it.

The White Witch is cuter than some smelly old lion that sounds like Qui Gon Jin..... Life is the crummiest book I ever read, there isn't a hook; Just a lot of cheap shots, pictures to shock, and characters an amateur would never dream up...

No grenades, they won't give us "frags" as there is "no current need." I think I might be of some help with that. If from "home" I'll grab my STG 58, all 21 magazines and ammo, my Smith & Wesson M625 and M629 Mountain Guns (some of those critters were BIG) and their speed loaders and ammo, and again, I think I might be of some help with that. And I might throw in my M11/9mm just for the critters that got too close. Sometimes you can't help watching a movie and thinking "Man, if I were there with my (pick your favorite lethal firearm), why I'd fix their wagon!" I saw the first movie in the theatre with a Catholic and two Buddists (no kidding) and when I cried eight times during the show they freaked out! You've got your act together with respect to weapons! Crunch, Although I own two Enfields both are No. 4's and I only have about 40 rounds total (ironically dated WW2 on chargers). I've never fired my Persian Mauser (and therefore don't know for sure it works) but it might be ideal due to Aslan's mark already upon the crest! PB, I detaste the witch so much I can't image eating TD even for a second! A kind member here traded me an India wood NOS stock and the hardware I needed to put it all together. She has a like-new bore, so I think it was worth the trouble! For autoloaders, I'd go for an M-1 Garand or an M-14, with a double-stack 1911 in case they got inside spittin' distance. Crunch

I've only had it a few months so it's not all sorted out yet. I tried the Lyman 250 gr 452424 with the Lyman max load of 7.2 grs of W 231 and it was severely smoking the cases. Gave nice, ragged 2", 10 shot holes from 15 yds though. John Linebaugh recommends 8 grs of W 231; I went up to 7.9 and my groups opened considerably. I don't know if I was flinching or if the alloy was too soft, possibly both. I used 7.9 grs, not that the 0.1 gr would save my bacon but because there's a RCBS Little Dandy powder measure rotor that throws that charge. I'm just naturally lazy. It is loaded with Speer 250 gr Gold Dots for serious social purposes. It has a groove diameter of .452", like a 45 ACP. I tried the SAECO #451 175 gr SWC and also got a nice, ragged hole at 25 yds. Tried it with W 231, but really think Trail Boss is the right powder for this application, and will get a round tuit someday. Should make a nice plinking load. K31 would be nice........nothing like one actually! I chose the K98 due mainly to the weight of the rounds.....biggest thing I have other than M95 Steyr (long)....too few rounds for that (never having tested my 1938 supply in it). My S/147 is very accurate though and of course, reliable. Still, I'd carry an extra bolt and magazine spring (once had one break but even broken in two, the mag still held 4 rounds and worked perfectly). hsc

Mine I load with a 255grn semi-wad cutter from Oregon Trail Bullet Company in Baker, Oregon, and Unique. Don't remember the exact charge right off the bat, it's been a little while since I've loaded any. Kind of went wild once with the progressive press and made enough to last for quite some time. It prints well enough (within "2 at 25 yards from a sand bag) and I like the "big ones." Unique is a little smokey, but it is my favorite pistol powder. Used it for over 35 years. Some folks like the newer powders, but why fix it if it ain't broke? The .45 Colt has a trajectory like a rainbow, but if you shoot it enough, a guy can do quite well at 100 yards. Enough that I wouldn't stand down there for nothing. So it should work quite well for the White witches critters, as would the M629 "Mountain Gun." eb "We must all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately." I hardly ever use anything else for pistols, occasionally Bullseye or AA #5. I think Trail Boss ( haven't even opened the can yet), will work well in that roomy case. I'm working on some full power loads, and will definiely try then at 100 yds. Glad I got a 625 in 45 Colt instead of 45 ACP. Don't worry about your writings not being of interest. I once tried some reloads in a friends 1917 Colt with those 255's and Bullseye. It's hard to get that bullet to seat to depth without making the case look a little on the "bulgy" side with some cases, but they shot OK at combat pistol distances. I don't think that it's something I'd do too often as I really don't see much of an advantage over the 230 grn bullets, and I like to make my ammo fit anything that's chambered for it. Takes a little work to make that round feed in a 1911, and it's a little hard on the pistol. I use the Unique for .45 ACP, .45 Colt, .38 Spec and Magnum, .44 Magnum and most any revolver load. For the 9mm calibers and .38 Super in auto loaders I like the W231 and AA#5, and have played around with AA#7. I've tried these other powders in revolvers, but I always seem to default to my Unique. I've been a fan of the .45 Colt for many years. It's still a swell round, accurate if loaded properly, and has more than enough "poop." It's because of the "roomy case" that I started using Unique, it fills quite nicely, and it gets excellent combustion. I have nociced though that you need to give it a good crimp, otherwise you might not get total combustion. I've experienced a slight build up of unburnt powder flakes under the extractor (enough to cause problems with closing the cylinder) unless I give the round a "firm" crimp. Argh!!!
