Hi, everyone. FNG here, from Florida.
I'm glad I found a forum like this, as I have had a .303 British passed down to me about 8 years ago. As soon as I got it, it went into storage and has been there all this time, as I was overseas. Since I got back now, I've had time to clean it up. The pics above are of the exact condition as the weapon was given to me. It is a No.1 Mk.3 .303 GRI, dated 1950.
I know nothing about these weapons, except that they have distinguished themselves on the battlefield for decades.
Does anyone know where I can find out information on this rifle- namely the markings on the buttstock, and the lineage it might have had (as in, which units might have been issued this weapon).
I have no idea what a reasonable expectation is, with regards to finding info on this rifle, but anything is much appreciated. I have thought about completely stripping the weapon down, and refinishing it, but before I did so, there are many markings which would permanently be gone, if I did so. So before I touch anything, I wanted to get schooled up by you guys.
Thanks in advance,
JB
