Again - Finnish 91/30 (with a Tikka barrel) may be the solution. You can find them for under $200 in great conditions AND most are NOT tempered with. The
Finnish slimmed down stocks (Soviet Butt with Finnish foreend) is surprisingly elegant and the Finnish trigger makes a world of difference. Once I got hooked
on them I kinda forgot about M39s.

zeebill,
Thanks again for your honesty about the Burns Bros. I'm an engineer at Edwards AFB. I am one of about 4 guys here who do airdrop/parachute system test. There's only about two dozen people in the country who do what I do, DoD and industry put together. I've spent many long weeks with one or the other of our planes at Ft. Bragg, NC conducting paratrooper drop tests out of C-130s and C-17s. In fact, I was there on 9/11/2001. Why?? So the 82nd ABN's paratroopers can go farther, faster, and with more and better stuff when they need to put a few cans of whoopass on the badguys! Do these guys matter to you? They sure as hell matter to me. Right now I'm involved with the testing for a new parachute system for the Combat Search & Rescue (CSAR) guys and SERE guys. Do these guys, and the fighting men they rescue, matter to you? They matter to me. When I'm not at work I'm an assistant scoutmaster or a volunteer NRA rifle instructor teaching kids, scouts, or adults how to shoot. I don't like political correctness any more than you do, but like it or not, Rosamond and Rogers Dry Lakes are in California, not West Virginia. Therefore, Edwards AFB is in California, and the work I do is here. If I thought my work didn't matter, I'd look for a job stocking shelves in a WalMart in a state you approved of. Check your Six! I think all of us like and respect the good sportsmen in California. It is a beautiful State with a lot of good people in it. Certainly your job is important!
That is not the real question. The real question is do we outside of the State of California who have picked places to live based on gun rights and freedom
want to support the government and policies of your politicians / State. If we play along and pretend the CA DOJ is not infringing on our rights to free and
unincumbered interstate commerce, then we are part of the problem as we accept anything that the CA DOJ puts on us. If we refuse to do business under the CA
DOJ orders, maybe the good people of California will get tired of being second class citizens and throw the bums out of office. The good people of California
are the only ones who can fix the problem. I don't live in California and I will not register with the CA DOJ. I have and will continue to do C&R
business there as long as I do not have to get approval from the CA DOJ to send a 03 rifle into your State (as is the case woth 01 firearms). I sympathize with
you and the situation of the other good people of California. I can understand your frustration. Please understand ours. Thank you for your continued service
to our Country!

By not selling to those living in California, you are only helping the antigun cause. Changing the laws in this state is a numbers game, either the
conservative, pro gun voters in CA have the votes to elect a majority in the CA Legislature who are conservative, pro gun, or they do not. I can tell you as a
CA resident, the votes are not there.....the changing demographics make it close to impossible. Also, it is not feasible for many of us to just move out of the
state...leave our job, family roots behind......many of us were born here..

zeebill wrote:You do this to torture me, don't you? I've never seen a M39 for much under $250 and you've seen many at $125? You're KILLING me here! Of course, I am used to your posts "killing" me, when I see your latest deal.
Please understand, I'm not heated in the least, nor am I anywhere near mad at you and I DO appreciate the information. But M39s for $125! Ahhhh! I'd go broke buying them, even if they are rifles the Burns swapped parts on and off. (If they're not, so much the better!) I'm going to have to double or triple my efforts!

TikkaSF: I do realize that you and some of my friends who are still in California are in one heck of a spot. Family and livelihoods anchor you there. I pray
the pendulum that has been swinging in the favor of liberalism in your state stops abruptly and swings back the other way. You folks have lost so much. Many of
us wish you well. Maybe your State's financial condition will wake some folks up. With best wishes and regards.

HI folks
I re-examined my VKT ans found matching numbers on the bolt knob itsef. I've bought 2 M39s from WGA and found no issues with them. Both were VKT's with new post war stocks on antique recievers and new or ex+ barrels. Mike |

I always checked gunsnammo for deals but nowhere do i find one . All are overpriced . The ones kind of got my doubts are the obvious nice woodstocks but metal
finishes are only 10 to 30 percent. These are tell tale signs they are putting in new stocks to up the value. Very obvious if u are a collector.

I have bought three M39s from WGA over the past two years, and I have funds set aside for a fourth when the right specimen shows itself for sale. I buy from
them because they take the time to identify antique receivers which makes it a LOT easier and cheaper for me to get them out of the US to me in NZ, and they
are happy to ship out of the US which is more than I can say about some of the other 'more popular' online vendors who I would dearly love to give my
hard earned money to.....
New Zealand has some M39s that came here in the early '90s, but they never appear for sale.... I have read the warnings on this forum and over on Gunboards about them changing stocks etc, and you'd have to be pretty naive not to see that the evidence for this is in their descriptions and photos. As with most things in this hobby, proper knowledge of the subject matter is key. Not every rifle they offer for sale has been humped, but it is easy to spot the ones that may have been. Ask for more photos if you feel you need to see them, and know the right questions to ask. |
