That wasn't political in the least, that was just a statement of reality!

Thanks for all you've done for the country, 'Nug, and I'm glad that it all finally fell into place for you.

I am glad to hear that someone is getting what they need from the Feds. My maternal grandfather was stationed at Ft. Dietrich during WWII. He and a WAC were
exposed to some sort of chemical which caused delayed health problems. He also had VA problems and was denied access to information pertinent to his condition
and what caused it, saying only that the information was classified. Finally, they did admit there was an accident and that he would receive full VA medical
benefits. They even amended his military records and awarded him a Purple Heart. He died less than a year later. To this day we know nothing of what the
chemical was or how it could affect my mother and her sister and brothers, or us the grandchildren. You see, FT. Dietrich was and is the headquarters for
chemical and biological warfare and much of what occurred there was and is classified information.

Yeah, most people who have never served in the armed forces, particularly in a combat zone, don't understand the toll it takes on the body and also the effects of combat and stress on the mind. Some things don't manifest until years later such as exposure to chemicals, hearing loss, damage to back and knees, etc. I am almost 30 and I am in great shape physically but wearing all that weight they make us wear nearly every day for a year overseas, running around, jumping out of trucks, falling down, lifting things, etc. my lower back will never be the same again and my back and knees probably aged 5 years over there from having to wear 80+ pounds on my body in IBA, plates, SAW ammo, breach kits, so on and so forth. If I sit for hours at a time my lower back will start aching bad, that never happened prior to me joining the army. One time I jumped out of the back of an MRAP and felt something "pop" in my back and then had to take fistfuls of aspirin for 2 weeks just to get through missions because I refused to leave my squad short handed, and the pain came and went for about a month until it got better. I probably have a very slight slipped disc or something, and my rotator cuffs are also shot from wearing that GD body armor....... I am going to start documenting this stuff now before I get out so maybe I can get some kind of compensation. |

Cynic that I am, I suspect the VA gets its attitudes from the Pentagon and the various services-if you go on sick call, you're just scamming, trying to
get out of something, or you're just a malingerer. Depending on your rank of course.
