Posts: 25 (12/15/09 01:18 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Hey all, I've had my M24/47 for awhile now but have never really fired much through it (about 100 rounds) and about every 10 or so rounds, I find that I can't close the bolt after a shot and I'm trying to cycle the next round into the chamber. When I start the motion to close the bolt, it gets stuck, I pull the bolt back and try to cycle it but it doesn't work and it doesn't eject the round, it's stays stuck in the chamber. The only way for me to get it out is to drop the cleaning rod through the muzzle to push it back down (I don't think this is the best solution). I have cleaned the gun of all cosmo when I first got it, I used 1980s Yugo surplus ammo and have cleaned the gun every time after useage. It took me like 3 trips to the range to go through just 100 rounds and it stuck a few times everytime I went. Btw, I live in CA, can I purchase surplus ammo online and have it delievered to my home if I don't have any special license? Where is a good place to buy some online?

Posts: 12771 (12/15/09 06:51 AM) Forum Site Moderator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Better order any ammo you can find before the new year starts, that's when the new regs come into place. I think sometime in January of 2010 for CA residents. Sounds like the extractor is slipping off of the case. Is it tearing the brass at the rim/extractor groove in the case? You may need to polish the chamber a bit to smooth things out, or you may have a bur or something like that in the chamber causing the fired brass to hang up in there.

Posts: 7131 (12/15/09 01:03 PM) Veteran member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	For any Mauser rifle, make sure that the rounds feed up thru the magazine. This allows the extractor to pick up the rim of the cartridge case. Simply laying the rounds on top of the follower, which I see people do all the time at the range when single shot loading the rifles will cause the extractor to force its way over the rim of the cartridge and will frequently break off the tip of the extractor. I would closely examine the business end of the extractor to make sure it is not chipped or bent from someone doing the above. Replacement extractors are available from a number of sources, so don't fret if it is bad. But simply think that from the time the bolt starts to close after picking up a round out of the magazine, it is held to the bolt face by the extractor and only when pulling the bolt back and the cartridge base hits the ejector is this relationship parted. It could be a burr in the chamber or gunk buildup like dried cosmolene still stuck in the chamber gluing the case in the chamber upon firing. Try cycling some fresh unfired rounds thru the action and see if they stick or come out marked in any way with scratches. Curt

Posts: 65 (12/19/09 03:21 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Hey Dragonfly...Can I ask if your bolt is a standard straight M24/47 bolt..is it matching ? Was it a Sarco Bent bolt M24/47? I ask because your problem describes very closely what a compatriot discovered when trying to use M48 bolts in near mint M24/47 rifles..Although in theory they should swap it was found that even with new extractors and swapping other M48 bolts,.. rnds from the right side would fairly consistently pop up and not be engaged by the extractor..polished feed ramps new springs and New extractors.. and even longer k98 followers would not cure the problem..M48 and M24/47 bolts were carefully measured for comparison and no difference could be found that would lead to this feeding problem. The Kicker?..When an M24/47 bolt was purchased and several other M24/47 bolts were borowed from other club members the problem disapeared... ---------------------------------------------------------------- I wonder if anyone else has tried M48 bolts in the M24/47 and experienced this ?? I dont want to hijack Dragonflys thread so if you have experienced this feed problem could you please PM me a description...Or better yet a reason why

Posts: 67 (12/23/09 06:42 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Hey Nug, Might not be a bad idea but my first thought was that since he is experiencing the exact same feeding problem...If.. he had an M48 bolt, a simple switch to an M24/47 bolt(check headspace) would cure his problem quick without working on a new extractor/chamber polish/follower Course if dragonfly has a straight bolt what I said wont be relevant..Me likes the easy fix first

Curiously, with all those bent bolt rifles Samco must be selling, we haven't heard many complaints. I haven't personally seen one of those bent bolts. With the very first round (had never used any Mauser), I pushed the bolt very slowly forward and the extractor claw must not have gripped the rim as the round left the magazine. Had no idea about Mausers. To compound it, decided to try the next three rounds by pushing them from my hand into the chamber. Same thing, the bolt did not rotate. LEs and MNs are not like this. A very experienced gun friend has an RC and Yugo Mauser-he suspected that the extractor was somehow in the way. A friend who retired from the Navy Marksmanship Team and has mostly US milsurps suspected the ammo (old Yugo/Rom.). A quick response at 'Surplusrifle' explained that the bolt was not broken. Tried it with three rounds and the bolt closed tightly and threw the rounds out a couple of feet. What a relief! The cause surprised even the friend who bought his first Mausers several months ago (seldom shoots). Last Edited By: Laufer 01/14/10 04:02 AM. Edited 4 times.

Posts: 7183 (01/14/10 12:25 PM) Veteran member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	With any Mauser action, you can not simply lay the rounds on top of the follower and expect the bolt to chamber them. If fact, this is the leading causes for broken extractors. The rounds MUST be inserted into the magazine so when the bolt is manipulated, it picks up the round from the magazine. This allows the extractor claw to catch the rim of the cartridge. and hold it. This is called "controlled feeding". By laying the round on top of the follower, or shoving it into the chamber with your fingers, it means that the extractor claw must bend outward and try to snap over the rim of the cartridge, and this often results in breakage of the extractor claw tip, and then you are up the creek without a paddle when it comes to extracting fired rounds, so have a ramrod with you so you can drive them out from the muzzle end. This is true for ALL Mauser bolt action rifles, regardless of type and nationality. It is one of the features that led to the popularity of the Mauser action and even today's hunting rifles use this principal. It is one of the very first things that any Mauser shooter learns, either do it right, or be looking for replacement extractors. Curt

Once a friend of mine didn't believe me and just "threw in" a shell into his Ruger and it jammed up...told him so !
