Their computers were down & of the 3 docs, mine was the only one willing to to see pateints without them. She used a pen & paper, good enough for me. With the backlog I still had to wait in the lobby over an hour with my nose dripping to the floor

Posts: 388 (12/22/09 11:43 AM) active member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Yeah that does sound rude huh, well I did make an appointment with my regular family doctor for the 28th and from there he will refer me to another specialist. See the specialist that I got referred to was the one the emrgency room suggested and my regular doctor said OK we will see how that visit goes. Just seems like no one will except my insurance plan and in the mean time they tell me a bunch of B.S in the mean time. So the next visit is on the 28th and hopefully this one will work out. The pain is a little less severe ( probably since all I have been doing is laying in bed watching tv, reloading 303 at 3:00 am and talking to you guys.) now so I cant complain except when walking or moving for an extended period of time. I just really wish I could get this over with all ready. Mike

Been through all the worry; been through some frustration, ready to go! "Git R done" as is said. I'm a military trained physician assistant (31 years) working in acute care so I get to see the early-on stuff like your hernia. Usual thing in my clinic is same-day referral downstairs to Dan or one of the other two surgeons. Hernia is a hernia; fix it and forget it. Two weeks of sedentary life-style. Post-op check two weeks out. Gradual resumption of normal life-style. My situation is a little different from yours; I work with the doctors and nurses who do this stuff every day of the week and I see 99.9% good results. Oh, yes, I've been there too: "If I'da knowed that I was gonna live this long, I'da took better care of myself". Despite what some folks may think/suspect, our physicians and surgeons are, on average, the best in the world. Nurses may be old and they may be homely but they are skilled professionals or they won't be working with you. "Specialist"? Hernia surgery is as routine as getting up in the morning for the general surgeon, he/she did this to "cut teeth" in residency. Insurance coverage: "You pays your money and you takes your chances" but insurance is a contract between you and your insurer; you typically get exactly what you pay for. Don't like what you are getting? Find another insurer. They are all about the same; some are crooks, none are angels. You will do just fine. Relax, breathe, don't strain yourself. Also the hospital surgery shows to see what my guts look like. Ed the only reason I am seeing a specialist is so if any thing else is wrong along with the hernia. The doctors seem to see another problem along with the hernia, a double wammy if you will. That is why all the different hospital visits before the surgery. Since my family has a history of these things going on they just want to make sure every thing is covered before proceeding with anything. Mike

I did not have both sides fixed at the same time though the right side was done in 2007 and the left side was done in 2008. You will be fine, don't sweat it. I sure do not miss being afraid to cough or sneeze for fear my guts would pop out. They only get worse. Get it fixed ASAP. Dont let the past remind us of what we are not now.........

I yell all this stuff to my mother in law while she is on the phone to my wife; I tell her how I have COPD, ED, weak stream, PAD, decrease in semen etc. etc. Drives her nuts to no end!!!! I was originally going to the doctors on Monday, but with the pain I went to the emergency room again on Sunday after returning from WV for Christmas. They kept me at the hospital that day since they said the hernia twisted or something like that. So they operated in the mid afternoon. What a relief I am very sore still form the operation, but they said two and a half days in the hospital was long enough. So I just got home about five hours ago ( it is 12:20 am now) so I can't sleep yet from all that commotion. Luckily my nurse was a recent med school grad and she was very nice. She even snuck me in some candy, that was a welcome site away from the nasty hospital food . So at least I had some one to talk to and she would often stay with me after her shift to see what I was up to. She said how is every thing I said " The hospital food sucks, I can't get up to use the bath room, Nothing good on any of these two channels on t.v. and I can't see what the heck I got for Christmas". She just laughed and I said I do enjoy something in this hospital. She said what is that you are sure doing a lot of complaining I said at least I can talk to a pretty nurse that keeps me company . Well aside from the surgery it was an OK stay and now I can see all the stuff I got for Christmas including some components to reload 303. So I just wanted to let you guys know that I made it and still have my humorous side despite all of this. So thanks for the Support guys and have a happy new year!!! Mike
