It's a great looking gun and appears to be barely used from the light wear on the slide and other parts. I have had one range session with it. It is very accurate for me at 7 11, and 25 (from rest) yards, altough I may have the rear sight opened up just a little to help me see. I'm 60 years old. I have 2 questions (problems) with this gun. 1. About 40% of the brass had pierced primers. Not a big hole, but in most cases just about 0.010" more or less at the base of the firing pin dimple. But this did allow some gas to escape into the firing pin area. 2. All of the brass had a large smear on the primer from the dimple to the outside of the primer. It looks like the firing pin was draging during ejection. I have att'd a few pics. Can I shorten the firing pin about 0.010"? Does anyone know the correct firing pin projection? Thanks for your help. Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.

Posts: 1135 (12/28/09 02:11 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Pierced primers are not necessarily an indication of excessive firing pin protrusion. First make sure the firing pin is not "pointy" and has a nice rounded appearance. You would not have the first pistol that had a damaged firing pin with little use. A flat spot, or a knick or burr can lead to pierced primers. As for projection, I don't really know, however rather than shorten the one that came with the pistol, if it looks alright, you might buy a replacement and work with that. The "smear" could be an indication of excessive firing pin protrusion. Can you give an idea of how much it protrudes from the breech block? If it is more than .03, you may be on the right track. There is also the possibility that your ammunition is just from a bad lot. Were you using factory, or reloads? At one time I did a lot of load work with the 7.62x25 and for some loads I used small rifle primers as a result of primer piercing. The basic difference between small rifle and small pistol primers is the thickness of the cup material. It is slightly thicker for the rifle primers because of the increased pressure. For working up a load, if using small rifle primers, start about 1/2 a grain under the same charge with a small pistol primer. Not really for any other reason than "better safe than sorry." I've read in more than one publication that there is really no difference between the two other than cup thickness. eb "We must all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately." The primers do not look incorrectly seated to me. OR....the pin is off center or bent.....?? Knowing me....I'm just backwards.....but I don't think it is the ammo. Just looked at mine and pin is slightly inside bolt face. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. USMC 1959-1963

I myself would just shorten it no more than .01 and give it a whirl. I don't recall the Tokarev having a firing pin spring, but that would explain you firing pin being below the breech face Mitch. Posts: 2128 (12/30/09 01:27 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It looks like the firing pin is still forward in the primer indent and has not retracted when the breech of the barrel starts to drop down and unlock from the slide. I've seen something similiar, but not nearly so pronounced in 45s on occasion.

Posts: 15 (01/08/10 10:55 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have the same problem with my Polish Tok using Romy ammo only. Polish,Yugo and Czech ammo work just fine,no pierced primers. I will save my Romy ammo for my CZ-52 and shoot the other ammo in my Tok. kyswede Collecting (fill in the blank) is a disease with no cure. You can only treat the symptoms by buying more. ha ha

Either that or it just floats pretty freely. I just checked my Tokarevs' firing pins for springs by locking the slides open and pushing on the firing pins - both spring back when pushed and released. Maybe some dirt/old oil causing the firing pin to remain protruding? Wouldn't explain why with some ammo and not with others unless there is a recoil force with some ammo that "resets" a sticky firing pin? NRA Endowment member LECS #2
