It seems endless.
My local guns stores have what they can get - not always what I want.
I looked via Google and in a search on this site for something about Substituting
one Propellant (powder) for another.
That is to say -----> X grains of 'Brand X' = Z grains of 'Brand Y'
either general or specific for cartridge size.
I have several smokeless powders and reloading tables generally give one several choices.
However, are there any comprehensive Substitution Tables (or whatever you might call them?)
which give values of grain loads versus Brand and Number. A more complete list ?
For instance:
from the Lyman Reloading Handbook...49th Ed.
in .303 British, 150 grain Jacketed SP slug, one can use (starting load)
37.0 gr IMR-3031
38.0 gr H4895
40.0 gr Reloder 15
43.0 gr H414
I can find some substitution data in reloading manuals.
What I am looking for on the Internet is a link to tables like the one in the Lyman Handbook,
but much more comprehensive.
I have enough Propellants that I would like to use what I have and not buy
can after can of specific ones.
I hope I have made clear what I am after...substituting propellants.
Is this a hopeless question ?
Please note - I am NOT a shooter trying to achieve some more perfect shot
pattern nor a sniper trying to achieve consistent shots....I'm am simply a JAFO type
very amateur plinker out to have some fun shooting trying to save some money.
Besides, if the day comes when propellant becomes scarce - all the choices may
not be available and we may be forced to "make do." I sure hope not....
