It Snowed Again! Did WVchuck drop off the grid? |

Woke up this morning with about 4" in the yard in Central Ky. Most of it has passed thru on it's way to West Virginny... Wonder if we'll hear from Chuck for the next week?

Yeah, he's out again.....as soon as it stops snowing, so we can clear the road, sidewalks and vehicles....
I'm in that dark blue patch of WV in the above picture......about 6 inches on the ground and it is still dumping snow.

Chuck and I are coordinating efforts this time! He is blowing it north and I am blowing it south and we are going to build a new mountain range in between us! I got about 2 inches up here since about daybreak or so. I was supposed to head down that way today but we may have a change of plans here for obvious reasons. Bill

It stopped snowing long enough to get the road & sidewalks cleared off....now that we've finished, it is snowing again.
About 9-10" on the ground so far......

Well about 10 and maybe 4 or 5 inches here now. Kentucky tends to hoard all the ice storms which I frankly think they deserve! We are almost heaven and I believe Kentucky is almost Ice Box or Kelvinator or something close to that. Heck the only reason Chuck lost power so long last time is he was on a loop with Kentucky and they thought they were dealing with DC and they couldn't figure out how to fix it. They kept trying to put new batteries in or something Chuck told me about it? Bill

10-11 inches at my house just NE of Roanoke. We had 17 inches with the last storm. I can't remember this much snow in one season sence I was a boy in the 60's. And my gut tells me it aint over yet. Feb and March have a reputation for snow in these parts. |

Actually had to use the 4WD to get up the hill onto the county road yesterday morning! It was slick driving on the secondary roads, the main highways are in good shape, but the back roads are horrible still as of yesterday afternoon.
When a salt & plow truck is tipped over on it's side in a ditch by the road, it's slick out there.....

Heck, I can still remember the time I was just coming into Libby, Montana from Idaho and it was at night and freezing rain was coming down. I could only do about 30mph without the 55 Chevy fishtailing all over the highway. Then I hit one spot where even the studded snow tires didn't help and I did a 180 in the middle of the highway and slid backwards into the ditch. A minute or two later along came a Montana Highway Patrolman and when he spotted me in the ditch, he tried stopping, only to end up in the ditch on the other side of the road! Then he gets out of his patrol car and was walking across the highway in my direction and fell right on his hind end! He called for a tow truck and the truck was there a few minutes later and even it had to put out traction plates under its tires to stay in one place while it pulled us out of the ditch. I have never seen such slick roads in my life. It was a good half inch of clear black ice that covered everything. After getting out, they closed the highway down for the rest of the night, as even the sanding trucks could not stay on the roads.

We got the ice on the roads here this morning, right at the busy time of the day when everyone is heading off to work and school.
They got the salt truck out sometime this afternoon, it was still in the ditch on the way in this morning, but gone on the way out this afternoon. Be careful out there folks!!

I'm serious about drunk snow-plow/salt-truck drivers...
See Link: http://www.wkyt.com/home/headlines/83348492.html If it happens here, it has to be happening on your side of the Big Sandy as well! -Bean

Dry counties over on the KY side of the river...none of those alcohol induced shenanigans....
The article fits the description of what happened here in regard to the wreck itself, but I'm certain the cause was different.
