This link brings up a clip of 4 spitfires and 2 Mosquitoes flying in formation including a low altitude pass, Merlins roaring! There are quite a few associated clips listed to the side, many dedicated to the sounds of these old plains including some Messerschmidts still with Daimler engines! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNJ8rIEPLOo&NR=1#watch-main-area Great Mustang clip- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uBHX35FD70&feature=related (and others) WWI Planes starting with a DRI (inevitably red) ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nrqbUn-HA8&feature=related One at least be warned. It involves a super low pass of a Spitfire over a person's head. That person's reaction was an oft repeated "F- Me!" Too bad they didn't edit that part out. Really detracts from the Merlin's roar. It's the only really objectionable one I have so far run across. But with that in mind, you just may want to air these before letting your kids/grand kids listen to them. One more thing.. The full octave doppler drop from approach to departure on the P51 really gives a good idea of how much of the speed of sound it is using up! Lots of other good ones show up in the grouping of related video clips on youtube. Thanks for the links there Nug!!!

But what I think it might be is a 3/4 scale "homebuilt" aeroplane. There's a clip about such a DR1 further down. Wow!
