Beeman Sportsman RS1 |

Anybody know anything, or have an opinion on, the Chinese built Beeman Sportsman RS1 Series? It is a dual caliber .177/.22 switch barrel rifle with break barrel cocking and comes with a 4x32 scope that seems to provide an ok image. I'm sure it would need to be resighted in for every barrel switch, but otherwise could prove to be a handy thing to have around. I can get it for under $100, though how much under remains to be seen, and it looks to be essentially brand new.
Any input would be appreciated! |

Generally the chinese beemans are nothing to brag about. The higher grade ones, I think they may be made in Germany, are very nice. A few years ago I bought a Winchester model 1000 (made by Daisy) which is also a break barrel "1000 fps" air gun. All I can say is that it was the biggest waste of $150 I've ever seen. Right now I have a custom Crosman 1377 ($160) which is my .177 air gun. And a Benjamin 392 ($150) which is my .22 air gun. I say if you're going to buy a break barrel air rifle, spend the extra money.

Thanks for the reply SuperMosin
I probably could have guessed that would be the case, but it is certainly nice to get some corroboration on such thoughts! |

It depends on what you want it for. If I wanted a quality air rifle, I'd avoid the Chinese and Spanish (Gamo) made guns. Stick with a German made Beeman import or an RWS. If you just wanted something cheap for shooting cans or knocking off sparrows, the cheaper guns would be fine.

If you wanted to take out sparrows then you would need an accurate gun, which some of the cheaper ones really..well...aren't.
