Aw, dang it- snow again... |

My favorite ranges- both of them- require one to go down long steep driveways to get to. If there's snow, it means one has to lug stuff from the lot a hundred yards away...only to watch all your brass disappear into the snow...trying to gauge the wind gusts...slogging down to the targets...I love Pennsylvania, but....aaaarrrrgggghhh! Anyone else's shooting get curtailed?

Yep more snow. It started at noon today and we now have about 10 inches and tommorow more will be falling. I hear over by you Bill that there is going to be more than 8-12 inches? I know my sister is getting the worst of it near DC and West Virginia. So I guess more waiting to shoot again.

Again? Geez... here in North Dakota we still have snow from November. And we're supposed to get another 4 inches tonight. North Dakota is not the place to be for those who hate snow.

ptrthgr8 wrote:I will note that! Let's see avoid North Dakota in the winter period! We too are getting snow here in the WV hills about mid state. I am getting about an inch an hour since about 7:30 PM tonight. Got a bit over 3 and 1/2 inches right now of slushy and heavy snow not like the previous light and fluffy stuff. Chuck and I talked a bit ago and he had a heavy rain all day type and is on every flood list they print till God know when although it is snowing there now too. I park about 30 feet away from the local range covers provided free by the state and slog out to the targets with little trouble. I rarely go to the range when the weather is this bad as the road in there is like most WV roads twisty and hilly so I shoot in the drive for testing purposes only, just to check function. Gads I Hate Winter! Next year maybe I will follow the birds to the Florida Keys or something till maybe March! Bill |

There is about a foot of snow in the yard now and still coming. Trees are pretty much collapsing and there are a few abandoned cars on my road. No salt trucks they come from the city areas while we can't move and the last ones to be plowed. Wonder how much more is coming tonight. A few accidents in downtown Pittsburgh, but the most of them were not that serious. As I am typing the whole area is still covering the area and will stop by mid day tomorrow and now they are saying an additional 3-5 inches so maybe about 20 inches in the yard. That will be fun to shovel tomorrow.

I guess my dismay at not being able to get to the range was misplaced....I can barely get to the mailbox! Mike, I think someone painted a target on Center Valley. We're at 10" and counting, shows no signs of slowing down. Greg, you are one of the ONLY folks I know who lives in North Dakota. I admire your courage!

Nothing but rain here in Southern WV....lots and lots and lots of rain....every now and then a chunk of snow would fall last night, but there is no accumulation of anything but rain, just some very soggy ground, swollen to the bank creeks, lots of water run off everywhere.....and it's still raining.
They have been spot on for the past two months, up until these past three days. They have let me down. I can deal with the snow removal and clearing of roads & walkways a lot better than I can handle flood water. Oh and since I started this post, I need to report that it is still raining. It has rained since just before midnight Thursday 2/04.......

Yeah well I got the snow up here in central WV this time! About 8 to 10 inches of wet and heavy snow with more coming down as I type this and I am not looking forward to shovelling this one as it is heavy! We are not doing bad though as they reported on the Weather Channel that Deep Creek, Maryland is up to 32 inches and still falling at over an inch an hour! It could be worse for sure I guess? We are supposed to go down to 8 tonight so what is not shovelled will be hard as concrete in the AM tomorrow. Have I mentioned how much I hate winter lately?
Just think they call birds "Bird Brains" but they have enough sense to head for warmer climes in the winter! Where does that leave us? Y'all stay warm and dry if you can! Bill NELT

When my son arrived on station @ Minot ND in mid October, his first duty was snow shoveling. We only had an inch of snow, but it was coming down sideways in howling winds & covering the inch of freezing rain. My covered woodpile is gone so now I have to defrost the wood before feeding the stove. (the results are worth it). I too have a steep hill to get to the rifle range & just don't have the desire in this weather. Thank God for the shooting tube. I worked up some 44-40 loads for the EL Tigre, & some light bullet/recoil loads for the Ti 44mag. Then, just for kicks, loaded up 3 boxes of 44 spcl.

John Moses, great ideas...I finally finished the adjustable brasscatcher I was thinking about....now it's time to finish the trim of those 500 7.7 Japanese Graf's brass...then I can chamfer them tonight while I watch a movie. Maybe I'll clean the gun room. Maybe load up some more 30-06.....if I load 5,000 more I'm going to sell that progressive 2000 and make some room down there.....

Mid to upper 70's with bright sunshine here in south Florida, heh, heh, heh. Zeebill, the Keys are no place to live if you want to shoot. I really enjoy visiting the Keys; fishing, absolutely, shooting is out of the question. There's just not enough land. The Outdoor World (Bass Proshop) store in Islamorada, which I believe is the original store, doesn't sell anything shooting related. only fishing and boating stuff.

Many seem to think Wisconsin is a bad place because of snow but in my 33 years living in the west central part of the state I've not seen anything like the storms hitting the east coast or the storms I experienced living in eastern CT for 14 years. It tends to snow in small amounts which does pile up after awhile but remains managable. Yes, it can get cold, and 20 or 25 below isn't uncommon but it doesn't hang in there for long stretches. The snow that fell at the end of November may still be on the ground in April, however. Carl |

Well over night we got more snow around the Pittsburgh area. Downtown got about 18 inches while in areas like mine we got 22 inches. The snow plows can't even make it anywhere let alone plow. Power has been going on and off lately from all the snow building up. That's OK I still have my four wheel drive quad to have fun with in this snow. Maybe I will put the plow attachment on and at least clear a little bit of road way. Then maybe I can make some extra change, snow shoveling on steroids

Went out shooting today; it was shirtsleeves weatgher. Shot a Savage 22 auto; it jammed. Shot a Ciener 22 conversion on a 45 and it made nice groups at 50 yds. Shot my Remington 513T; a tack driver: it's more accurate than the shooter and the ammo I used in it. Finished with a Broomhandle, but only got off two rounds: there are several problems with its innards.
OTOH 100 degree weather may start in May and can last into mid September; you wonder if it's ever going to be cool again. |

Wow Colin I wish it was sleeveless weather here. I guess some have it luckier than others. Went to take my dog "CUJO" for a walk today in all this snow. My dog is an American Bulldog so I figured he could just plow through the snow. Well when I was walking him he just followed behind me as I cleared a path on our snow covered street. He was jumping through to walk through it. He even got stuck |

I'd just like to point out that it hasn't snowed here since 1949... I wish there was at least a little snow in the winter. 365 days of sunshine gets really boring & annoying. Then again that's coming from someone who has grown up in such circumstances.

I have not been shooting due to snow here for the past couple weeks, more on the way, tomorrow. I did get to take my 2yr old sledding in the back yard for the first time though!

Hey Palomino it may not have snowed there but it has rained liberals in Cali for far too many years. Maybe you need some snow to kill off the germs? Hehe! Bill

cujo- so what is wrong with your dog wanting to sleep next to you? Mine did for years until she passed away. Ever hear the term "three dog night"? If it was a normal night, it was a one dog in the bed. If it was a colder night, it was two dogs in the bed with you. Really cold nights called for three dogs in bed with you to help keep you warm.

If it makes you feel better, we're getting snow in S. California where I am. (At & above 4,000 ft.) Raining steady everwhere else. There will probably be a lot of mudslides where they had the huge fires in the mountains around LA.
I wonder how many people with Superbowl tickets are stranded in airports due to the blizzard? Crunch |
