Picked up a beautiful M48 at the gunshow this weekend. Bolt doesn't match but furniture and bluing are excellent -- BUT - the bore is dark and heavily rust
pitted. Looks like the previous owner shot corrosive ammo and forgot to clean it. Patches come out shredded and I can see fibres hanging off sharp edges. The
rifeling seems to be ok. Anything I can do other than send a couple of rounds down range and hope for the best? Thanks, Axel

That looks nice from the outside, bummer on the bore report!
BUt all is not lost. I picked up one several years ago that had the orange cruds popping out around the muzzle even. 
I said to myself, it'll either scrub/shoot clean, or it won't , but for $100 cash & carry for an all matching M-48 with all of the accessories, I decided to take the chance. It took a few days, but it is one of the best shooters I have now and has a remarkably bright bore! Foaming bore cleaner, a tornado brush and 15 rounds of ammo should get those rough patches taken care of. Good luck with it and keep us posted as to the progress.

Nice one Axman! I sure hope it works out the bore ok! But these old Tzangara are tough so there is yet hope!

Do you reload? Wheeler engineering makes a bore lapping kit, Midway USA carries it. It's like 30 USD. You impregnate your projectiles with a fine abrasive and shoot them with a mild charge. Works very well if your careful. Also check out JB's bore bright, great for polishing a bore. Good luck, let us know how she shoots!
