Although I still collect firearms I no longer want to collect helmets, uniforms, gear etc. I went to go see the Captain America movie last week. I enjoyed it. It's a good movie. Part of the movie explained Captain America's first costume and his first mission wearing a blue painted Paratrooper's helmet with an "A" painted on the front. After seeing the movie I told my friend..."I can guarantee you that you're going to see people painting perfectly good M1 helmets blue and selling them on eBay". Unfortunately my prediction is coming true and this auction has a bid. Right now it's at $300. What the heck are people thinking? More than retarded..... just insane! Seriously if you really had to have something like that it would be so easy to find a cheap foreign M-1 clone and paint up your own. .45-70 The only form of big Government you really want.

As the item is being sold in Australia, and prop items usually stay with the prop house for at least a little while, the item itself isn't the original helmet used in the movie. It's a copy. So the seller is counting on someone with more money than brains, who "absolutely loves" the movie, and just "MUST" have the helmet bidding on it. Now here is the greed part. Helmet $50.00 to $85.00 Paint about $10.00 Time about $25.00 So we're talking about a 250% markup here. Of course that is an excellent business model if it works.
